Final Farewell to Netscape Navigator ...
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/image...e_icon6666.jpg
A web browser that gave many people their first experience of the web is set to disappear. Netscape Navigator, now owned by AOL, will no longer be supported after 1 March 2008, the company has said. In the mid-1990s, as the commercial web began to take off, the browser was used by more than 90% of people online. Its market share has since slipped to just 0.6% as other browsers such as Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE) and Firefox have eroded its user base. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7270583.stm |
god damnit.. i like netsape, still use it as secondary
Adiós Netscape...
they had a good run
one less browser to support...yay :2 cents:
I remember when they came out. Was my favorite at the time.
RIP.. that was my first ever browser
We'll miss you, Netscape.
My first browser was NCSA Mosaic. I almost died and went to heaven when I downloaded Netscape 1.0. And not to be dramatic, but after seeing a few sites in 1.0 I made a career change, quit school and became a web dude.
RIP...I use to modify it to say NutScrape when visiting sites.
4.08 was still the best of the Navigator series. 4.5+ was so god damn crashy.
yea i remember the netscape times.. . old skool
RIP, Netscape was buried by MS with IE ...
I still use Netscape 4.08 for email to this day.

They cut their own throat when they set it up so you had to log into the browser. That was the last time I ever used it what ever version that was. It took everything over like a virus too..
as a side not I can't believe they didn't just sell it. |
welcome to two weeks ago, really sad to see this happen. :(

Netscape Navigator is the most important product ever created for the internet so far today. Essentially we view the web the way we do because of them.

I hated it anyway.

The stats are a little skewed though if you keep in mind that Firefox is basically the next generation of netscape...
Netscape has been funding the Mozilla project since it began, and pay several firefox developers their full time salaries... |
