Anyone have a Nikon D3 yet?

I have a D300 waiting for me to pick up but thinking about going with a D3 for the clean high ISO. I was going to swtich to Canon but the D3 came out of nowhere and is freaking amazing.

Just wondering if anyone knows where to buy one NOW instead of waiting in line like a putz.

I don't know about the D3, but the D300 has some sickass high ISO performance. Very little graining.

SOLD! When may I swing by to pick up my new camera? I will trade you for my prized buddah who has brought me great fortune and love since I first rubbed his belly at one of these shops on Venice Beach.

Dave, you are getting one hell of a deal let me assure you.

why exactly would you need an ISO of 1000? Going spelunking?

I will post pics soon. I am on set right now.

I trIed ISO 800, 1000 and 1250. Was really impressed! I bounced from F7.1 and F8. For some of u that wonder why hi ISO performance is important this is why: You want your lens set at f8 so the the face and the penetration is in focus. If you drop it to F5.6 Your camera will focus on the face or the penetration. (same with auto on a video camera). generally if you use higher ISO settings you will get a noisy picture, if you drop below 80th of a second, u get body noise or blur.

The answer to all of these problems is more light. ISO 100, F8, 125th of a second is optimal. the more you stray from those numbers you will loose something. Its a game of give and take.

The D3 has allowed you to hit higher ISO's with a less penalty in the noise department.

The full frame and Hi ISO performance is nutz!! It will cover up where a lot of people lack in knowledge. But the choice between 12 bit and 14 bit color is out of this world!! 2 bit difference?? 14 bit V. 12 bit is 2 times more colors.

The work flow i use is shoot at raw with the 14 bit collor choice and bring the 22-24 meg file down to a smaller JPEG size. Why?? because a larger file compressed to a smaller file with cs3 or phase 1 will always look better than the camera doing it for you.

I use dual speed lights and a turbo pack or 6 kino flows with a c light or 3 to 8 Pro photo stobes depending how i feel that particular day.

Being good is being able to turn out the same pic with 30 different lighting schemes and 20 different camera settings. Me, i'm ok..

I got the D300 last week and it is a much better camera than the D80 I was using over the past 15 months. I am still game and might get a D3, too. However, I would need to invest another 5k for the 3 basic full frame lenses. Kinda sucks to spend 10k on a camera and a few lenses on just one day LOL

It is a lot, but i had a D2 and i have all prime lenses already. About 11 in all. I only have 2 DX lens, so all of my others work with the d3. For what i do, i need it. and even if i didnt, i would still buy it.. lol

I shoot 5,000 to 15,000 picks a week and my D2 never failed me. I had it since day 1.. All of my Canon buddies get the Evil "ERROR 99".. lol

naw I would use a direct light if any available sunlight was not enough

I am getting sick of the strobes look, wanna use little lamps all over the place. Perhaps even the light bounced off my pearly white teeth will be enough if the ISO performance really is as good as they say.
