I will post pics soon. I am on set right now.
I trIed ISO 800, 1000 and 1250. Was really impressed! I bounced from F7.1 and F8. For some of u that wonder why hi ISO performance is important this is why: You want your lens set at f8 so the the face and the penetration is in focus. If you drop it to F5.6 Your camera will focus on the face or the penetration. (same with auto on a video camera). generally if you use higher ISO settings you will get a noisy picture, if you drop below 80th of a second, u get body noise or blur.
The answer to all of these problems is more light. ISO 100, F8, 125th of a second is optimal. the more you stray from those numbers you will loose something. Its a game of give and take.
The D3 has allowed you to hit higher ISO's with a less penalty in the noise department.
The full frame and Hi ISO performance is nutz!! It will cover up where a lot of people lack in knowledge. But the choice between 12 bit and 14 bit color is out of this world!! 2 bit difference?? 14 bit V. 12 bit is 2 times more colors.
The work flow i use is shoot at raw with the 14 bit collor choice and bring the 22-24 meg file down to a smaller JPEG size. Why?? because a larger file compressed to a smaller file with cs3 or phase 1 will always look better than the camera doing it for you.
I use dual speed lights and a turbo pack or 6 kino flows with a c light or 3 to 8 Pro photo stobes depending how i feel that particular day.
Being good is being able to turn out the same pic with 30 different lighting schemes and 20 different camera settings. Me, i'm ok..
