Ahem... It's "Just Lyke Compton" thank you very much. And they'll look you right in the face when they shoot you, a luxury one does not get in Baghdad.

Whether that's better or not is personal preference.

What are house prices in Baghdad like? ... Anyone know?

campimp 02-27-2008 11:49 PM

damn, that is insane.

almost worth buying 10 or 15 houses for dirt cheap and just hoping things turn around there in the next 9 or 10 years.

never seen homes that cheap before

Drake 02-28-2008 12:10 AM

Those prices are insane

L-Pink 02-28-2008 02:31 AM

Bump because I still can't believe those two links.

helic0pter 02-28-2008 02:47 AM

No, I'm sorry, that is not a serious question at all. Everyone would rather live in Detroit. Your life expectancy would drop by like 30 years if you moved to Baghdad, and probably drop to 'dead by the end of the year' if you're white.

Well, as long as you don't mind trying to collect late rent payments from armed tenants.

Interesting. Here's another link:

The Detroit Metro population fell from 1.8 million in 1950 to 950,000 in 2000.

beemk 02-28-2008 06:20 AM

those houses are most likely errors or rental properties. the shitty houses in the shitty detroit neighborhoods go for 3-5k.

Not all of them man.. I raised the prices and checked some of the $10k to $30k homes. There are a lot of pretty decant looking houses on there. I mean hell even if they are in the poor sections of town, as long as it's not crack town seems like some money could be made in rentals.

Is it that bad there that no one is investing?

right now you can get homes in the suburbs for 20-50k on the low side and still make 300-400 profit per month after your mortgage, taxes, insurance. i dont touch detroit anymore even in the nice neighborhoods for rentals because their taxes are insanely high.

Here's a better question...

Would you rather live in Baghdad full of Americans or Detroit full of Muslims?

No. Did you know that Spirit Airlines is offering a one-way ticket from N.Y. to Detroit for a nickel? They are also offering a ticket back for a dime and a bodybag included.

Detroit or Baghdad...I take offense to this statement..I would like to see how another city would turn out after losing about 50% of automotive jobs...It's GM, FOrd and Chrysler's fault the city looks as it does...THere are sooooo many abandoned factories in my city that its ridiculous!!! And they wont even tear them down. All Detroit had was the automobile industry and thats almost dried up and the city is paying for it by drying up as well. Detroit was a thriving city until the riots in the 60's and all the business started to move out.

Was the economy to dependent on artificially high automotive union wage jobs?
