If the Democrats didn't spend so much time and money ripping themselves apart in primaries the Republicans wouldn't win.

I predicted Bush would get in again last time and everyone laughed

Bookmark this post for future reference.

At the moment Im predicting McCain as I mentioned a few months ago.

As Im not from the usa I simply base it on information/calculation it helps as Im sure most people worldwide go on emotion with this type of thing.

A Republican? Is there a Republican running? I guess you mean McCain.
Although he was approached about running as a Democrat and he votes
with the dems as often as the repubs, I guess he's technically the Republican
nominee. I look at him as the in-between candidate, though, for people
who are tired of both parties. McCain isn't loyal to either party.

At the moment it would appear that Bush has fucked up so thoroughly that any Democrat nominated would beat any Republican. BUT

You think the Dems are beating up on Obama? You ain't seen nothing yet. The republicans WANT Obama to win the nod because he will be easier to defeat than Hillary. The reason? Simple. They are just chomping at the bit to bust out what Hillary has already hinted at. Obama's ties to Muslim extremist groups, Obamas Muslim brother and father, Big money from legal firms that represent accussed terrorists....and that's just the begining.

Mark my words the Republicans are going to come out strong trying to paint Obama as not just a sympathizer but an enabler and if they succeed McCain will win.

Heck no, the Dems and media LOVE Obama too much to ask any questions about anything. But in the general election, if he's the nominee, swift boating is going to look like a picnic I'm afraid. I dont KNOW it, just afraid of it for the simple fact that nobody asks him anything but stuff like "Gosh you're so great, what makes you so darn yummy?"

I'm still of the mind that the Democrats lost their chance at a "sure thing" when Edwards dropped out.

It's now a crap-shoot for them, at best.

Shy of some sort of crazy occurance (assassination, terrorist attack, etc.) Obama will be the next US president. In a one on one debate Obama will wipe the floor with McCain.

The Republicans are resorting to rediculous and childish tantrums, name calling and bullying now, because they can see the writing on the wall. They will try to scare voters to vote Republican, because that is all they have left.

Can the Republicans run on a good economy? No fucking way. Can theyu run on healthcare? No fucking way. Can they run on sound fiscal responsibility? No fucking way. Can they run on how they have helped the middle class, end our dependence on foreign oil, up the value of our currency, etc? No fucking way!

8 years of "government for the oil companies and the rich" will be ending in November.... finally!

Mark my words the Republicans are going to come out strong trying to paint Obama as not just a sympathizer but an enabler and if they succeed McCain will win.
I actually think just the opposite. I think the republicans want Hillary. Here is why:

1. the religious right pretty much controls the fate of the republican party. Without the support the republican's don't win many elections. They don't like McCain and are on records as saying they will not support him. Without there support he is in trouble. Need proof of that, look at the election in 2006. The religious right turned their back on the party and it cost the republicans the house and senate. They might not vote for the democrat, they just won't vote.

2. If the religious right don't like McCain the only thing you can say for sure is that they hate the Clintons even more. If it were Hillary that got the nomination the religious right might support McCain out of spite and simply as a way to stop Hillary from winning. If it is Obama there is a strong chance they will not support McCain.

3. Sure the dems are tearing at Obama now, but if he wins the nomination suddenly it will be a love fest. Look at the Republicans. They attacked McCain and now talk like he is their best friend. That is just politics.

4. McCain, if he decides to sling mud, better be ready for a landslide. You don't stay in the Senate as long as he has and not had bad votes, bad decisions and stupid bills. This is one of the things that happened John Kerry. He spent half his campaign defending his senate records. McCain may very well find the same. This is one of the advantages Obama's lack of experience may bring him. He has fewer skeletons in the closet.

5. If the worst thing the Republicans can find on Obama is to try to make people think he is a Muslim they are in trouble. If you are paying attention to the race you can see that those tactics are backfiring on Hillary. She supposedly releases that picture of Obama and says he is a Muslim and is now under fire for doing it and it seems to be working against her. He was trailing by almost double digits in Ohio and Texas just a few weeks ago and today it is pretty much dead even.

6. It is a classic match-up. You have a the traditional old white guy for the republicans and you have a young, charismatic guy for the democrats. The republicans have had a good run. They have been in power for a while. Politics goes in cycles and once a party has been in power for a little while they get bloated and arrogant and the people get sick of them and vote them out. That is what is happening right now. There is a nationwide republican backlash and many people want something different. An Obama/McCain race would give them a clear choice. Choose to stick with the republican standard issue, or go with someone that is very different.

7. The democrats are seeing records turnouts at their elections. Recently in Wisconsin abut 400K people turned out to vote in the republican primary. 1.2 million democrats have turned out. It has been that way in many of the primaries. The republicans have always banked on low turnouts because they know their base will be there. They can't count on that base now and these big democrat numbers have to worry them.

8. McCain continues to give speeches in front a few hundred people. On rare occasion he speaks to a few thousand. Obama is a rock star. He shows up anywhere and 15,000+ show up to hear him. It is a long time until the election in November, but that kind of momentum will be hard to beat. If McCain can't get the support of the religious right and Obama is able to activate the hippy liberal left and actually get them out to the polls on election day, McCain is done.

Anyway, sorry for the long post. just my 2 cents, I don't think it is as cut and dry as a lot of people think it is.

I bet the Clinton Machine hits him the hardest. Hillary will want the nomination in 2012.
The Clintons can attack Obama under the radar, and everyone will assume it's the Republicans doing the dirty work.

The debates actually don't have that much to do with the election. Look at the last presidential election. Most people would agree that Kerry wiped the floor with Bush, but the poll numbers hardly moved after that and Kerry still lost.

The republicans will break out the fear speech and try to convince people they are the only ones that can keep us safe. Expect a few Osama Bin Ladin tapes and stuff like that near election time.

The democrats now have ammunition. The republicans ran things for a while and the economy is lagging, we are marred in an expensive war and many people are unhappy. The republicans will have to answer for the sins of Bush and the party over the last 6-8 years. I think that track record will say more to the people than any debate will.

What the democrats need to do (which historically they don't) is actually fight back when attacked. They need to punch back and show the people that they aren't pussies and will fight. The people don't want a president who doesn't defend himself.

One big problem is that the Democrats promised to fix these problems when they were voted in to congress 2 years ago.

Things are arguably worse since the Dems took over congress.

They would probably have a better chance at the White House if they had not had the past two years in Congress to prove they can't do shit.

Yep, the fact that the congress has been a total failure since the dems took over will hurt them. I imagine they will try to spin it to make people think that Bush is to blame and that he blocked everything they tried to do. The way of politics is that your mistakes are never your fault, they are someone else's.

I think the best thing they could do is to come forward and apologize. Admit that they got caught up in trying to hurt Bush and not help the country and promise to do a better job, but I doubt that will ever happen.

Flip that statement back to the current administration and you are spot-on!

4 years of a Republican administration, complete with a Republican majority congress, and here is where we are. Time to balme the congress for the last year now? How sad.

Listen up Americans, we are in a big war! Forget everything else, live in fear! The Republicans will take care of you. The Democrats aren't even Patriots, they want you to surrender to some made-up enemy we will continue to fight!

John McCain helped push for a "surge" wow! Brilliant strategy - we need more troops and more support to do better in the battle. Who would have guessed that? More troops and support gives you a better chance and holding back your opponent? Brilliant! I think 5 year olds understand that astounding military move. He must be a military genius!

8 years of these idiots was too many already. Enough of this nonsense!

Maybe you're right. But I think the biggest obstacle for him was the Democratic nod.

Had he gotten that, I think he woulda run with the ball to the White House, hands down.

As much as it might suck, the simple fact is that a lot of people aren't going to vote for Hillary because she's a woman, and a lot of people aren't going to vote for Obama because he's black.

I'm not saying that'll prevent victory for them - a lot of people have lost faith in the Republican Executive these last 8 years... but race or gender issues aren't obstacles that Edwards would have had to overcome.

But then... I admit that I could be entirely off base here. I'm no political analyst.

yep. imagine how much dirt they will drop on him during primaries. Common, they made Edwards look like traitor, imagine what would happen to Obama. Im sure some “non-profit” organization will be formed to let everyone know that Obama is responsible for September 11th and WTC bombing

I disagree. I think Edwards would have gotten beat, and possibly badly. He should be the poster boy for the democratic party. He is a self made guy who made much of his money suing companies on behalf of children. He has stuck with his family through good times and bad. The problem is he is just not very likable. He comes off (to many people myself included) as being smug and kind of an elitist. He seems to always think he is the smartest guy in the room and he also comes off as a little bit slimy and willing to do anything it takes to get elected.

When it comes to a general election a lot of people vote for the guy they think is the most sincere and for some reason Edwards just doesn't come off as that guy.

I don't know why the democrats chose the candidates they did. Historically speaking presidents have always been white caucasian Christians. I think most metropolitan parts of the country don't care but you forgot the percentage of voters in rural areas that aren't as liberal. They gave themselves a handicap from the start.

Because they would rather be PC than elected.

Im thinking this thing looks like the race in 2000. Mccain wins with much speculation and very little action on it.

isn't it obvious? ... they need to lose so the "Reagan Revolution" can live on.

When I think of Obama getting elected here in the US.( or a female for that matter ). I remember a scene in an old Eddie Murphy movie. Trading places, hes hiding in the bathroom while the two old white guys are talking and the one guy says to the other. "Valentine is doing an incredible job." and the other guy says "Would you really let a hahahahahaha run our company" he replies. "Of course not..".

Lets see here. In every state Obama is pulling double if not triple the vote count that McCain is.

How is that gonna change in the general, as the conservatives hate McCain.
