no.... it's not really a question of technology.... the technology is there. But you can't squeeze blood from a rock.

I think if it's in vector format instead of pixels you can... if I remember correctly, Corel can convert it to vectors and allow you to enlarge graphics without any loss of quality...

Amp is right. The thing is, you can't *add* data that has been lost. Some algorithms aren't bad, and there are tricks you can pull, but it will never be as nice as you started, unless you started with crap (or a geometric image, maybe).

you don't want to lose any quality whatsoever, but it's a jpeg ?
![]() about the best you could try is to use something decent like photoshop to resize, and keep the aspect ratio the best you can... ![]() |

Go get a haircut, and after the barber cuts too much off, tell him to put it back. Same thing with a pic, no matter jpeg or tif, you can't add back something that wasn't there. You only start with so many pixels, that's all you get to work with.
You can however, with Photoshop, enlarge it, then spend HOURS blending, smoothing, cloning, and blurring to get something that "looks" like the original. Best advice, convert it first to a tif, do your work, then convert back to a jpeg for the web. ![]() vik |

I've always wondered what would happen if you took a photo of a photo, I'll bet you could make it huge again?

As for a digital photo, suppose I shoot a photo of a car, and the license plate is rendered by 500 pixels, allowing me to see the numbers on the plate. Now I drastically reduce the photo so that only 20 pixels are used. I think you can see that you can't render the 6 or 8 numbers in a plate with only 20 pixels (block out 20 squares on a piece of paper and try it). What has been lost is called "information." I think you can also see that if you blow that 20 pixel area back up to 500 pixels again, there will be no numbers there. It will just be a larger illegible blotch. The information is gone.

lol havent heard this term in years but there are fractal compression schemes that will do what u want... obviously the quality is not as good, but it is better than nearest neighbour or straight interpolation techniques used in enlarging images

You can make it larger. But the pixel resolution stays the same. The larger your picture the more you can largen it some without loosing to much quality.

Well this one works just fine for most images as a photoshop plugin. No noticeable distortion and image enlarges just fine without losing quality. Perfect for taking digital camera pictures and turning them into a resolution fit for printing.
