Bravo, Chad!

It's lovely to see how many of us there are. To go along with the "birthdays" in the thread, mine is 18 Oct 1991.

See you soon!

I would bet it was (at least) your second DUI . . . to get a decision like that.

I know of two time offenders that haven't received sentences as harsh as that.

What aren't you telling us?

It was a second offense. That is the minimum sentence for 2nd Offense in Iowa. I actually had a total of 3 convictions; the first two were charged as First offenses because of the time between them but my last one was charged as a second. The mandatory minimum is 7 days in jail and $1500 fine. The first offense mandatory minimum there was 2 days in jail, $750 fine and loss of license for 6 months.

Here is a link to the news story :

And a follow up:

The sentence:

The 6 year suspension was in error; it was actually corrected to 1 year.

And finally, re-election:

It is hard to have anything to hide when it is all published in the papers.

coincidentally i had one of the bigger alcohol binges ive had saturday, sunday night i was still fucked up.. the worst thing of it all is that i dont remember the best parts of the night, a friend of mine told me my crazy ass actions

""I could never quit with just one. Either it is none at all or else I want to drink the whole damn brewery.
Besides, I think I have already drank up my lifetime quota! I am officially cut off"" you are right about that, but you still need something to compensate that kind of relaxation right?, that's my problem, I work all week, and in weekends I bend the bars , and the weekends start too early , I am in control, I don't drink during the work week

That sounds about right. Do you remember if you felt ready to quit at that point, or was it a tremendous struggle to convince yourself you had to stop?

Did "stopping" get easier over time?

Also . . .

Did you happen to see this very recent headline?

Story: Florida DUI Rehab Director Arrested -- for DUI

http://www.tcpalm.com/news/2008/feb/...ehabilitation/

It is amazing how common the problem really is.

At least you didn't register any domain names while you were drunk. That shit is crazy! You see the RUI offenders in the "sales" section trying to get anything they can for the domain names they registered while impaired (by drugs and/or alcohol).

I felt like I had no other choice than to go to treatment -- that through all the shit I had done I had gotten myself into that situation. Once I realized what I had to do, I did what I had to do.

The first year was rough. I gave up all my old friends, I never set foot in a bar and went to a lot of meetings. I made new friends and as I got more comfortable being sober I rekindled the old friendships that were worth keeping.

It is definitely easier to stay sober as time goes on. Being in this industry would be very hard to be newly sober with complimentary booze everywhere and people offering you drinks at every turn. Having some sobriety built up makes it easier and now staying sober is just a habit and it is easy.

youre telling me man. one of my favorite people in the whole industry is my biggest enabler. thats cool though. you learn to be responsible and pick your battles carefully. since july i've gotten loaded three times. at the xbiz show i only drank at one function. that was the xbiz awards. i am much better off not doing that stuff as much as i use to. one day i am sure i will leave it behind for good. im no angel and when i fall off the wagon, i break every bone hitting the ground. i am just happy that i have the power in me to not do it unless i want to now.

:thumbsup

I can't speak for anyone else, but I work hard and play really hard -- I just don't drink to relax anymore 'cos I like to remember my fun ;) For me, once I had been sober for a while, I learned how to cut loose and be "zany" without having to be lit up like a Christmas tree. Interestingly, it's much more relaxing and useful to me and my brain than when I would be completely wasted.
