Ny Health insurance? (juicy?) help!

What insurance do you have? What kind of coverage? How much per month??

Thinking about applying to the freelancers union.. dunno if they will take me..

http://www.freelancersunion.org/insu...ity/ny-nj.html

empire pos Individual $382.63

Ehealthinsurance.com spits out these choices

I circled the one that looks alright from those choices.. with the high deductable that you invest in a savings account it comes to $508 though if you need the max done in that year.. But then again I don't know the tax savings..

Man so confused

I joined the freelancer's union. The coverage isn't super awesome, and it's expensive... but it is cheaper than doing it on your own. Good luck.

here's what to do - put on a big sombrero and a fake moustache - go to the Canadian border at Windsor/Detroit or Buffalo and say you're from Mexico and want in - they'll fix you up in a nice apartment, free health insurance, welfare and probably rent you a car.

$469 was for a zero deductible coverage. As you can see by the other listings, he could find something cheaper if he upped his deductible and office visits - even more if you up it higher than $2500 (the $2800 is almost down to $300 a month). If you're a single male with no existing health problems that's your best bet. He also doesn't mention if he smokes or not - that often raises premiums.

No smoking.. social drinker.. pretty anti social so that shows you how much I drink.. and I have a webmasters body (non muscular, tall, underweight somehow)

Been trying to do 30-40 min of cardio a day now though but I definatly need a checkup.. been a couple of years I paid out of pocket but I know they are holding back the needed tests because they think I cant afford it :|

Personally I'd get a high deductible hospital/surgical policy and pay for your check up and tests out of pocket if you're looking to save $$$. If there's ANY HINT that you have pre-existing conditions then a new policy won't cover the tests any way. I had to wait 2 years to get my migraines covered. Since that was really the only medical problem I had, I kept just a basic hospital/surgical policy during those 2 years then upped it to a PPO with a high deductible.

meh - you're healthy as a horse. but you do need health insurance in case you get appendicitis or break a leg and end up with a bill for $50,000.

oh i know it - the Canadian medical system is totally fucked in different cities/provinces - just read a news story last week that THREE people in the same fucking day died in ONE emergency room in Etobicoke waiting for anybody to help them.

The hmo has a high deductable and 0 co insurance.. I dont like the idea of coinsurance.. after paying a high deductable do I really want to pay 20% of god knows what.. but its a hmo.. my current doctors are listed

I have a PPO, not an HMO so I don't know if it works the same, but my 20% coinsurance (after deductible) is a capped amount - $2K I think - then they pay 100%. So in reality, you SHOULD know the most you'd have to fork out if there was a high bill at one point.

Yep its pretty sad! the saddest part is our gouv. uses it as a "free tax your ass to death" card, because of this "free system".

But looking at the prices US pay's monthly is also pretty harsh, i dont know wich is better.

if you make a good living and can afford a good health plan the US system is superior by far - if you're working poor or unemployed the Canadian system is superior

I actually just got group health insurance here in NY state under NAPA (National Association for Political Advocacy). The premium is about $230/month. Here are a few details:

In-network doctors office visit co-pay is $20 per visit, specialists is $40 per visit, up to five visits per year.

Pays $500/day for max 30 days hospitalization, $500/day for max 15 days intensive care/coronary care.

Pays up to 80% per surgical procedure for required surgeries and up to 25% for anathesia (all based on RBRVS).

It's not a major medical plan, so it's not as inclusive as you might want but it appears you're encountering the same difficulties I did in my search for health insurance here in Suffolk, and this was the best I could find.

Call 1-800-803-5166 for their hotline. I hope this helps.

I filled out one of those online quote things.. netquote or something and they are the ones who called me.. They where very very pushy.. like they would put me on hold for 1-2 min and then come back saying you are just in luck theres 1 spot available! That to me soured the whole experience..

I went online to search about their plans.. and its very limited coverage which is ok if thats what you know you are getting.. Like you cant go to the doctor more than 4 times in a year etc.. and they have a cap on lifetime payouts so god forbid you get cancer.. you are fucked..

Yeah they said it was 230 a month.. for around 100-150 bucks more a month might just be worth it for a bigger plan..

I agree.

The $500 max is scary enough. I was in ICU for 5 days recently and it was $4K a day just for the room. So you'd be on the hook for at least $3500 a day. Not good for that price. Maybe as an add on policy, but as a main policy, I don't think it would do much good if you really needed to use it.

Too true. If you happen to come across something more substantial, then please let me know. I'd be interested.
