Almost every young person these days is on medication because doctors see an "unruly" child and jam ritalin in his momma's hands. Then they graduate to Xanax and such.

I think it has nothing to do with guns, and everything to do with what they feel will be "fame". Otherwise they'd kill just themselves. Shooting others is purely for the coverage IMHO.

These medications do a number of these kids. A lot of these kids that mass murder are ON medications when it happens. The more kids get medicated the more we will see of this.

I just wrote a letter to msnbc. But if you're going to also, I warn you that their link to letters to the editor on their website is screwed up and will crush your machine's resources before you can get it all closed... clicking it once ate 99% system resources, and eventually opened a whopping 45 instances of my email client. it's simple the pro-gun people say guns should be legal because either A) only criminals will have guns or B) people will get gun illegally anyways.

Well ok we have rape laws yet rape still occurs. So using the pro-gun logic of "if a gun law doesn't stop criminals then make guns legal for all" then rape should be legal. You can't have it both ways. 2+2 always=4 Not sometimes it =5.

Yeah the latest trend is Pharm drugs, I can definatly agree on that.

Take the guns away and people that snap like this will find a way to take alot of people with em, without any guns.

America needs to seriously wake up concerning prescriptive drugs, unfortunatly the Drug Companies own the government at this point.

It's real but 99% of those that supposedly have it don't. Funny when I was in school 30 years ago no kids were on meds nor were there all these kids with ADD. No one shot up schools either.

I remember a few school shootings from 30 years ago, but none on a mass scale...that I can recall. Part of the problem, regardless of what anyone says, is the media. They're making celebrities out of these people nowadays. Where 30 years ago, a lot of these shooters would have just offed themself quietly in a room alone, TODAY they know they can instantly make themself famous. Or infamous if you will. And it all started with the media coverage of Columbine.

Again, exactly right. 30 years ago we had to wait for the paper the next day, or listen for the 6pm news which only had an hour to cover everything. NOW, they have 24 hours of time that THEY have to fill...so they do it by exploiting the news. Anna Nicole Smith, the OJ trial, Britney, and on and on and on. On days like this when the world is wondering what the hell is going on in the minds of these shooters, the news network brass are probably sitting in the backroom thinking, "Yeah, another one!".

If they DIDN'T think that way, their coverage would be much more delicate.

Yep, media. And yeah, improper diagnoses. I actually got so pissed today that I complained to a media outlet, I hope others will too.

I have a friend who was at the doctors office with her son, and she said the woman next to her was PISSED that the doctor wouldnt giver her ritalin. Her son was "wild and hyper" she said, and she wanted him on ritalin. We're talking 8 or 9 years old here.

The one thing in these shootings is that telling us their name and showing us their picture adds ZERO to the story. While keeping that private could save countless lives from copycat mass murderers. There's no loss, and it's no excuse to say "well channel 3 is showing it anyway", fuck that. Grow some balls. Do whats right. It's simple. If channel 3 jumped off a bridge would you yada yada yada. Media outlets just need to get a clue someday and see the harm they contribute to and stop hiding behind bullshit reasoning that is only sophistry.

I've said this for a long time now and have written CNN in the past about it as well. What they'll tell you is simple..."We're just reporting the news that everyone has a right to know". That one sentence seems to relieve them of any moral obligation.

I picked MSNBC to write to because they seem to be the most volatile and opinion filled "news" channel out there right now. I dont expect a reply at all, but I expect someone to read just ONE more opinion. I dont want to discourage others from doing the same just because of what a reply might be.. We have to get more proactive not less. When they say such things is when the debate *begins*, not ends. Write everytime.

Also, it doesnt matter if there is a "right to know" or a first amendment "right to free speech" in these matters. It's something they can and do take stands on sometimes.

If CNN or someone learned where bin laden was hiding and they reported it on the air, I guarantee you they would face some sort of backlash, right? I'm saying this is no different. They're perpetuating a problem that, while they have every right to do so, they should be told to knock it the fuck off by everyone who believes they are part of a problem.

Thats why in my letter I appealed to their news sense by asking what knowing this persons name or likeness adds to the story? IMHO, it adds nothing whatsoever. While keeping it private could save lives.

They're all scratching their heads on this guys profile. He's not a loner, he had great grades, he was by all accounts very likeable, well liked, NORMAL as they come. Gee what could be the reason he did it? We all know.
