I get an average of 45 mpg.

I get 1000+KM (621 miles) from the 52liter (13.7gall) tank that's part of my lil' VW TDi (diesel).

1 US gallon = 3.7854118 liters
1 mile = 1.609344 kilometers

It does not vary enough to mention whether most of the KMs are highway or city! Yet, with that low rate of consumption, I still walk if it's less than 50-blocks (100-blocks both ways).

40 MPG highway. 1996 General Motors made Saturn SL2. Mid-grade unleaded gas, no hybrid. I remember the 70's and purchased accordingly.

But to listen to car ads in the US today, your car should make your image better, and turn you on sexually or else you are a pussy.

Rock on.

26-35 mpg is what they say I get. All I know is that I don't have to fill up very often.

Long distance on the motorway I'll get around 36 I think. Not had it on the motor way on a real long distance yet.

Hmmm... I get 43 avg on mine, but then I nearly always accelerate with my foot on the floor, and mileage drops quite a lot in the winter.

Mine's an '03 Jetta and been running B-20 biodiesel every single tank since I bought it.

I find city mileage is much lower than highway.

CNN just put out this article on the greenest cars in America. I laughed my ass off because none of them are diesels. MY VW Jetta gets better milaeage than every single car on that list.

Can't wait for the new Honda diesels to come to North America. The new diesel Civic is supposed to get 70+MPG. I hate Japanese cars, but hell, for mileage and reliability like that, it's hard not to want one.

24 highway, 17 city.

However, I so rarely drive that I go months without filling up the tank.

Those lists are based on what the car costs to drive per mile.

A Jetta isn't as cheap to drive around as people think. Diesel fuel and oil is much more expensive, and the fact they get horrible city mileage compared to highway mileage.

My wife owns a Jetta and I own an SUV that gets 21mpg in the city. The only time it's worth driving her car over mine is long road trips.

Why is diesel so much more expensive than regular gas now? I can remember it always being lower until about 2 years ago.

Around here they also sell "off road" diesel which is a lot cheaper because you don't pay road taxes on it. Many people have their own gas tanks on their property and have been known to put off road diesel in on road vehicles......

*I* do not. But there are a lot of folks who use it in their trucks. And of course, there are also many who drive their tractors and ATVs on the roads.

The base model is priced pretty well. In my area (Toronto) diesel is a little bit cheaper than regular gasoline, although I pay a premium for bio. The city mileage isn't that much lower, maybe 1/3. You also loose about 10-15% in winter.

Many cars on that list are more expensive than a VW.

cost so much cause of the new refining requirements to produce the ULSD (ultra low sulphur diesel).

There is more to life than MPG.

But to answer your question...8-10 mpg depending on how heavy my foot is that day.

Thanks IIRC, the off road diesel has more sulfur - or at least did. Maybe they lowered it there too.

Owning a diesel used to be such a $$$ saver. They are coming out with a Cherokee diesel and I've actually thought about getting one when my lease is up next year, but now I'm not so convinced.

I also remember you could always tell a diesel by how dirty it was around the exhaust pipe.

07 Civic hybrid here.... Does that mean I win? MPG varies on the type of driving I do. When its warm and I do 80MPH down the freeway I get 40MPG, when I drive from my house to the lake doing 55MPH I get 60MPG mixed driving without trying I get about 47MPG but anytime I slow my ass down I get 50MPG but I've had 3 speeding tickets in the past 5mnths in this thing so you can tell how slow I drive ;) my worst one was 82 in a 55 in Atlanta.... apparently I crossed from the carpool lane to the right lane (passing a group of cars) and a cycle cop got me.
