As an Aussie, I don't understand the appeal of Obama

As an outsider looking in I am really at odds with how Obama has so much popularity. All I see is slogans and hundreds of millions of dollars invested in getting those slogans out there.

From the outside and what I have gathered he is a fresh faced kid, has no experience, and just rides on the fact that he is 'black'. Watched some of his speeches and he just talks around in fancy talk and never actually says anything.

Is it the fact that everyone is so afraid of being seen as racist, is it the black thing (something he plays to constantly) ... or is there something else I am missing entirely ?

Probably at least 1/3 of the Democratic party is black. And most of those are going to support the black guy no matter what. The rest well many are ignorant uneducated poor fuckers that get hypnotized by "fancy" words and false hopes.

He actually does not ride on being black. He seems to stay away from the race issue at least moreso than hillary does the sex issue.

As for no experience, honestly it would not be the first nor last time we have had a President without much experience.

The point is moot, I mean, it's not like there's an ACTUAL election taking place.

Haha yeah. Well by experience I'm no expert but compared to Hillary he does seem kinda 'green'.

I admit to having taken an interest in this election process, and having just endured one here the first thing I seem to notice is how he never says anything directly, always talks around issues. Its what our govt used to do constantly. You are left wondering what he stands for and against at all. Also your local media seems to give him a free ride... he can do no wrong.

Just my impressions.

As an American I'd like to ask the Aussie why what few well known celebrities you have, have a tendency of dropping dead so young? Crocodile Hunter, Heath Ledger. When the Crocodile Dundee guy is still one the the top 5 celebrities left alive from Australia there's a problem.

You might want to concentrate on fixing the place you live in.
The news I see comming out of your country makes you all look like a bunch of angry hicks.

All politicians seems to work around an issue instead of taking stances. Specially this early on. They jump around and say shit that appeals to whom they are speaking to.

As for the free ride, actually they havent. Just depends on what media you are talking about. Specially since some are always on the dick of any republican and bash anything and everything else. Then of course Hillary is great at topic changing to get focus back on her. Obama just happened to have released his dirt pre election via a book.

Only part I find entertaining is the pissed factor that is growing with Mccain each and every second that Huckabee stays in the election despite that there is no way including a hail marry toss to have him win the nominaion. I actually think Huckabee is attempting to give Mccain a stroke before the nomination to win it and say it was via a nudge from above.

Oh what sorta things ?

And theres no harm taking an interest in who is likely to make policy which will affect your allies (like Australia marching blindly behind you into war). I would argue that the president of the US has more of an impact on Aussies than our own leaders.

Thats my biggest complaint about Obama myself. Your really unsure what your going to get. With Hillary you know what your going to get because of the past records of what the Clintons stand for but also what she talks about in her stumps and debates. She is substance, he is rhetoric. Reminds me a lot of a car salesman. Tells you everything about what to feel, how it makes you happy, how it will get you chicks, but tells you nothing about the actual car. Sells you on emotion and not facts.

And the media does give him a free ride. They don't dig very hard. IE cnn was blatent today to try and confuse and say he is sweeping these primaries big time when it fact they are caucuses. And a large portion of his delegates is coming from wins in states with caucuses that require much more time and hassle then going to a polling station, voting and leaving. Which goes very hard to his base of college educated affluent democrats, where as Clintons base is high school, hard working making under $50k a year democrats. So caucuses favor him greatly. And remember in the general elections there are no caucuses. In straight up head to head primary states outside the deep south in Bama, Georgia, SC where the black vote is big and 84% for Obama, he is losing the majority of the other primary states.

They like to skate over facts and ignore the reasons for them and instead just keep pumping him up without calling him out a bit. At least be partial and fair in your pros/cons of each candidate.

Which is fair, but what has Obama said about how he will actually make things different and actually make change to the country? What's his plan to revolutionize the country with the support of the congress and senate for whose full benefit is to keep things close to the same as thats where the money is? A president alone can not make change. He would need a ton of people in the senate and congress who get voted in who have the exact same vision and desire to change things on its ear. I just want to hear a realistic plan for how he will achieve things that are new and not more of the same.

He's an incredible speaker. Plain and simple, you hear the guy speak, you like him. It's just an aura he has, hard to explain.

Basically all the candidates on both sides are the same. They aren't going to change shit, aren't going to do anything at all. So most people just vote for the guy they like best. With a rather uninspiring field running, Obama just shines above them.

Obama actually hasn't been getting the poor, uneducated vote (Hillary has). His base is educated and wealthy within in the Democratic party. As for the black vote, he's won states like Washington, Idaho, and Iowa that have literally no blacks at all.

Again all of those are caucuses which drastically favor his base over hers. The one state you can point to that is mostly white that he won as a primary is Utah. But those other 3 don't accurately portray what is happening across the country.

Here is a run down of just the primary states between them both. Since primaries allow the same voting as the general election and gives a truer sense of what is happening nation wide. Primaries so far.

Clinton states won: Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida (since nobody campaigned and all were all on ballot I count as legit), Mass, Michigan (don't count since she was only one on ballot), New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Tennessee,

Obama states won: Alabama, Conn, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Missouri, South Carolina, Utah

Total vote count in primary states.

Clinton: 8,612,708

Obama: 8,073,245

Total Vote Difference: 539,463

Total Delegate Counts in primary states.

Clinton: 768

Obama: 683

Total Delegate Difference: 85 without super delegates.

Delegates doesn't include Florida or Michigan.

Vote Counts include Florida but not Michigan since Florida they all didn't campaign (Barrack did run tv ads he said were tied into a national ad by) and were all on the ballot. Michigan was excluded because Barrack and Edwards withdrew from the ballot and were listed as undecided.

Wait a minute. Don't start confusing the issue by stating facts. Totally inappropriate.

Besides, I was raised under the notion that you can support ANY argument using numbers. How do you think Ron Paul's fifth equaled a first?

No, he was being primped for the 2012 or 2016 election. That was his goal. He may have even stood a chance then.

Had you ever heard of him before "that speech?"

Yep a big reason Edwards ran this year was because he didn't think Obama was going to run until the 2012 or 16 cycle. It was a big blow to his campaign went Obama decided to jump the gun and try his hand early.
