I know this may sound a bit silly and all but I was thinking.
California has its own special anti-spam laws.
California has well Hollywood and Porn Valley.
California has a lot of music companies as well.

Now couldn't something be lobbied to be placed into law that would give those in California certain legal rights similar to the anti-spam ones. Individual infringement charges, repeat offenses, and all of that crap. Then we just ignore the actual tube sites and such and go after the up loaders.

Yeah the downside would be that those outside of California would be excluded though I am sure NY and Vancouver would also adapt similar laws as they are also very big in entertainment production.

Upside would be that I am sure it would be a whole lot easier to pass. People would not necessarily assume it is a porn protection law. Then going after end users who do get scared and give a rats ass unlike the tube owners themselves, it should really cut down on the number of member up loaders and thus prevent the loophole in the law.

look what happened when napster got shutdown that left millions of users to jump ship to 10 other peer to peer groups, those started to get targeted more heavily, torrent started popping up. every iteration like this only progresses and spreads piracy to even more people. yeah tube sites make it much easier that it has been previously but every hit only leaves a huge hole for another piracy site or technology to capitalize on those users.

Its not pointless at all - what would happen if they dont close the loophole, but instead agree that tubes etc have to hand over the details of uploaders on request, or keep the list public. Shit i dont know but nothing is pointless.

FYI, in Canada we don't just "adopt laws".

A good example was our courts telling the RIA to go fuck themselves, ruling that Canadian ISPs did not have to give over customer information from IP addresses.

I am just anti lawyer, especially 99.9% of the lawyers around this biz. They will sell you the sky, and deliver nada. Seen it happen time and time and time again. That wasn't a solution or suggestion lol, just something that came into my head at the time of posting.

But unless people make efforts no change will come at all, even minor ones. Even if it sharing exists to some degree which is of course unavoidable, id rather make it 10 times harder for surfers to find and download than simply going to a tube site and hitting play on full length vids.

I think that knocking out the local tube sites is a good thing. Hitting hosts and so on will somewhat slow down the trend. Still, as others have mentioned, it just takes a server in Sweden and they are untouchable.

Going after the advertisers and processors is the key. The harder you hit their revenue streams, the less profit there is. This means if you see company's ads next to your full length video, you sue them. They are directly profiting off your copyrighted material. They are using the tube site as a way of laundering money by hiding behind them. The minute you start knocking off their options for revenue is when they have trouble staying afloat.
