Who knows... with Sony owning Vegas Video... and Sony owning Bluray maybe Vegas will start to gain more credibility in the mainstream market.

I think one think it needs is more integration with After Effects. I've been trying to teach myself AE and it's SOOOOO different than Vegas, that's hard to cross over. I guess the transitions from Avid and FCP into AE is much more smooth, and I think once you get bigger into AVID parts of AE get integrated into the editing program.
On the sony board they are showing the first TV commercial for vegas. So who knows.

Kind of a slow time consuming way of doing things, based on my own style.

I've read that once you get high enough up the Avid program, you can open AE in Avid and edit that way.
I hear ya man, but in actuality, you can open Premiere Pro project files in AE. And with FCP you can import your timeline directly into motion or Shake. and when ur done you can re-export the timeline back into FCP and all ur shnazzy new graphics will already be in place

switching from premiere to AE and back is as easy as a click.

same goes for FCP and its compositing systems.

As for avid, i dunno, never looked into it

I just did a quick test.
From Vegas, if you save your project as an .aaf instead of the default .veg, After Effects can import it. There's no rendering time either so it's as simple as saving, switching over and importing, and the import doesn't render anything either so I just brought in a 3 hour timeline instantly. I was impressed by that.

The last time I had used AE was when I was trying to learn some masking (before Vegas had a decent masking tool) and it seemed like a huge fat pain in the ass, because you'd have to render your clip that you wanted the effect on, then import that into AE, then add you effect, then render that as an avi, and drop it back into Vegas... but now it looks look like you can import and bypass all the rendering.

Getting back into Vegas it seems to want to render the timeline into an AVI or MOV.. or several other formats, but they all require a render at that point (unless I'm missing something)

But either way, this method is new to me and going from V to AE is quick and painless. (I was expecting about a 9 on the pain scale) and getting back to Vegas needs to render an AVI but that's always good time for a snack and GFY break anyway.
