OK, here is the answer... Krome was close enough, so I'll say he is the winner.

The guy used to be a cook in the Navy. One day, there was an explosion in the kitchen. He managed to survive, but lost his vision. After days and days and days of being stranded at sea on life boats, the survivors started dying from starvation and their various injuries.

Finally, they managed to kill a few of the Albatross that were flying around their life rafts, so they had food. The blind man ate, and enjoyed the Albatross.

They were eventually rescued. After getting home and getting his life somewhat back in order, the man was craving Albatross, so he went to a restaurant and ordered it - raw, of course. When he took the first bite, he realized he was not fed Albatros on the boat... He actually was eating his fellow crew members. He couldn't live with the fact that he enjoyed eating people, so he killed himself right there, on the spot.

And there you have it.

Yeah, close enough. I assume you looked it up since your answer is pretty close to the version floating around the internet. You missed him being blind (which I think is an important part of the story), and how the whole thing was a Navy incident, but close enough.
