If the answer you found has anything at all to do with the guy's wife, it is incorrect (well, it's a different version anyway).

Kanoealoha 10-02-2002 11:08 PM

nope, nothing about a wife...
but i wonder if its the right answer...probably is...i hope :)

StuartD 10-02-2002 11:09 PM

Ooooh... I've heard this one before.... and gotten lots of people on it... however, my version it was a seagul... makes more sense.

oops, is that a hint for people? :thumbsup

Wenchy 10-02-2002 11:11 PM

Questions:

Does the past event have something to do with
1. a child,
2. girlfriend, or
3. just himself (i.e., something act he committed).

4. Did he use a weapon to kill himself (knife or gun)?
5. Did he use some other method such as poision?.

Weird structure, but this way they're yes/no questions :winkwink:

That could be a hint.... but actually an albatros makes more sense.

Since I am such a nice guy, here are THREE more hints for you:

1. The guy is an American.
2. He is single.
3. He used to be in the Navy.

You know that he killed himself after ordering Albatross in a restaurant and taking one bite of it. I also mentioned that he used to be a cook, but that probably isn't much help.

UnseenWorld 10-02-2002 11:16 PM

He had an allergy to albatross. There is no known "reason" for allergies.

1. No
2. No
3. Hmmmm.... hard to answer that one. I guess yes.
4. Yes. Gun.
5. No.

Yes/No is the way to go :thumbsup

No. I think someone guessed that before.

Let me say again, the guy shot himself in the head with a gun. THAT was the cause of death. Now you need to figure out WHY he did that.

Kanoealoha 10-02-2002 11:19 PM

ahhh...the answer i found is just a bit differnt, but from the clues i see the similarities kick ass :)

Shame you couldn't wait and play along some more, Mr. Impatient.

:winkwink:

Wenchy 10-02-2002 11:26 PM

Let's see... so this single American guy, a former cook, joins the Navy and quickly realizes that he has no aptitude for or a deathly fear of flying. The albatross represents both his inability to fly and his anxiety about it.

So he shoots himself in a perfectly normal restaurant so because he can't live with the shame.

LOL okay, it was a reach, but I couldn't help myself! :1orglaugh

Kanoealoha 10-02-2002 11:28 PM

Miss Impatient....i couldn't take it any longer!!! ahhh!

You were doing great until the word "quickly"... and everything thereafter. hehe... Nice try.

Wenchy 10-02-2002 11:33 PM

Time to REALLY go out on a limb...

Was this single American former cook who joined the Navy... Gay?

Sure.

Actually, no, he was not. But it's not really relevant.

TeraBabes 10-02-2002 11:59 PM

It's 3:00 AM. Time for me to go to bed.

If you guys want, keep posting yes/no questions and I will find this thread and answer them tomorrow sometime.

Sexican 10-03-2002 12:05 AM

Let's see. He started eating the ALbatross, then thought back to his childhood in the "Rescuers Down Under" Disney movie, realized he was eating the very same bird that carried those cute mice from America all the way to Australia and decided to take his life. Being in the Navy was a coincidence.

I win~

Juilioso 10-03-2002 12:43 AM

did anything happen between the bite and him killing himself?

Krome 10-03-2002 05:54 AM

1) Was he on a boat?
2) Did he purposily order albatross?
3) Did he listen to "The Jam" due to them being the best band in the world alot?
4) Had he ever eaten Albatross before?
5) Did he think the Albatross was something else?

TheBigGuy 10-03-2002 06:11 AM

Simultaneously eating bird and reading "old man and the sea" can be hazardous to your health.

kinkyplace 10-03-2002 06:23 AM

1) Has eating the albatros caused him to kill himself?
If "no" that would make those two events unrelated.
If "yes", then:

2) Was it because it put him in fitting emotional state for suicide (for example by reminding him of something that happened in the past)?

if "no":

3) Was it because it somehow contained some kind of message giving him new information that made him want to kill himself?

THATS what is was called.... i was thinking of The Littles for some reason. I loved the first Rescuers, with the crazy old lady :)

TeraBabes 10-03-2002 08:25 AM

Sexican/TheBigGuy - No.

Juilioso - No, nothing physically happened between eating the Albatros and killing himself, other than deciding to kill himself.

1. No.
2. Yes.
3. No.
4. No. But this is a very good question.
5. No.....

1. Yes.
2. Yes.
3. Yes, sort of. I don't know what you mean by "contained some kind of message," but yes, eating the Albatross somehow gave him new information that made him want to kill himself.

Wow, check you out.

chodadog 10-03-2002 08:37 AM

I just had to cheat. Very interesting riddle though...

mjrools23 10-03-2002 08:37 AM

Um, no. He killed himself. We established that a long time ago. Now it's just a question of why....

TeraBabes 10-03-2002 08:54 AM

I won't be around for a lot of today, but I'll check in when I can.

Time for a hint:

The man is physically disabled.

I'm Slim 10-03-2002 09:44 AM

The Albatross was taller then he was! hehehe

Can you elaborate more. Did he die just because he was disabled and could not run.

Did the albatross meat give him super-psychic abilities?

If yes, then my guess is that he realized that the bird was really his father reincanated. Distraught he killed hiself.
