I'm not sure that I want to go too cheap with an SLR ... But I don't know really... Need to read up on some!

I have more pictures... But they're all of the same thing really... Cats, flowers and nature-esk things!

Am starting to do some shoots with Laura [Punch Bunny's new artist] though... So we'll see how they come out!

Buying an SLR can be simple or complicated.
If you want 'the best', the answer is the Canon 1DsMIII - but it will over-complicate matters, and will probably make shooting a hell of a lot harder.

Compacts these days sport a lot of things that dSLRs don't - they auto adjust colour, exposure, saturation and sharpness to 'optimums', so the snaps you take always come out looking vibrant and happy.

The essence of a DSLR is control and choice, so they won't do the above things by default. You'll have control over every aspet of your photograph, whether that's a good or a bad thing. Shooting on a DSLR versus a compact means you lose, at least initially, the simplicity of flicking between macro, wide angle and zoom. Want to shoot macro? that'll be 1k, 2+ for a decent - same for wide and tele - and more, especially if you're throwing L [or equiv] glass on.
There's also the lug factor, as well.

It comes down, generally, to lens and body choice - Canon or Nikon.
Canon have a great range of dSLRs, with the focal length crop, but digital lenses to compensate, or full frame, such as the 5D.

The difference between the 5D and 1D[s] series is body, build, and flash sync, essentially.

I can't speak for Canon gear, as I don't shoot on Canon.

Work out what you want and need to do on your camera, and then see which one fits, not the other way around - then stop over at dpreview.com

Well, our friend who does photography for bands etc gets insane results with the Olympus E510 and we were looking at getting Perrie that camera. It's a great price and the results speak for themselves. Dunno.

These pictures are amazing. What cameras/lenses are you using for these pictures? Are these taken with digital cameras? And can these results be achieved without photoshop?

I'm using a little Sony digital snappy camera.

All I have done in photoshop to some of them is use the brightness/contrast tool. Literally to brighten them up.

I'd love to be able to get these results without using photoshop, but it's just not possible on the camera I have at the moment.

All the panoramic shots on my site are off film, the Xpan 2.
The rest are digital, Canon 1Ds [very old now]. Mainly the 17-40 f4 L lens, but sometimes the 50mm 1.4 as well

Nothing is photoshopped, apart from white balance, resize and watermark.

My personal policy has always been - if you couldn't do it in a darkroom, don't do it in photoshop - but that's just me

I would love to be able to get the results I want without photoshopping at all.. But with this camera it just isn't possible.. Not for that bright contrast I like

While I understand and admire your view on that ... surely that's a quite limiting view? The end result is all that matters ... and if you have to make a change to the hue or the red tone or the brightness etc ... isn't that acceptable? In fact... isn't that essential? You go out ... you take a load of images ... then you come back home, weather has changed, so you can't go back out and do the shoot again, and you find that all your images are a little dull because the light outside wasn't so nice ... so you want to add a little brightness and warmth ... a subtle orange tint etc ...

Surely all that matters is the end result... and not the means to get there?

I'm just throwing that around. I'm an artist and I draw stuff... Perrie's the one who can take good photo's .... but as an artist ... I don't care how I do something as long as the end result rocks
