I called Kurtis (the supposed 'XTube Kid') to get the scoop on this because when I left the show Saturday there was nothing like this going on, and Kurtis is not one to get into scraps - it's not sexy enough, lol.

So, the story you're about to read is straight from the punchee:

Later, on Saturday night, Kurtis attempted to speak with someone (possibly "Sebastian Sands") who proceeded to use his superior intellect to punk Kurtis. Kurtis immediately became bored with the guy's antics and walked away. Moments later, when Kurtis was entering a building, he paused to hold the door a moment for a man who was walking behind him. That guy was too busy on his cell phone to realize, so Kurtis let go and continued walking in. Apparently the guy on the cell phone was not impressed with Kurtis' gentlemanly behavior and chased after him, and sucker-punched Kurtis on the inside.

The punch landed, in the throat, and Kurtis returned with a shot that left some of the puncher's DNA on Kurtis' ring. Not sure, might have been a shot to the chin. Security was quick to end the scuffle and both men were tossed outside.

As far as Kurtis could tell, the puncher was not part of the convention, so we cannot award credit for the stellar boxing performance to anyone. It was by no means a KO for either person. Basically one shot each.


As for the claims about XTube ripping people off... That's not accurate. XTube does not upload content to the XTube website. All professional content is uploaded by webmasters, through a webmaster account, who are required provide sponsor information and linking codes, along with an optional 120x60 button, which appears in the description of the content.

It is true that regular users are physically able to upload stolen content, but it does not stay on the system as it is reported by users, found by admins and in some cases an official will report it to XTube, where is it always promptly removed.

This is all completely contrary to copy-cat tube sites.

It is important to note that this model is on the way out the door. XTube is no longer interested in doing business in this fashion. There are too many people who cannot wrap their heads around it. So, shortly, all webmaster access to the site will be shut down. I thought you guys might be happy to hear that :)

Yes he did try to speak to Sebastian and a group of us all standing together and when he gave his card and we wanted nothing to do with him and said we dont deal with sites who have stolen content he did not like that. Well you should not go to a place where people who protect their content and try to make friend if your working for a site that takes others hard work and puts it up there for the world to see. An maybe they should change things if they are trying to make friends with webmasters.

There is no one in the office uploading content that was not created by the person uploading.

We don't want your content. The users don't want your content.
XTube is focused on Amateur content, generated by the user. The volume of email that we get bitching about commercial content is immense, so we implemented a filter that blocks commercial content (WMs) - the users loved it.

We're not hiding behind the loophole that bars us from reviewing content. We had a schedule where staff would review content on an hourly basis until we learned that doing so incriminated us. So now that we're not allowed to police the site, we rely on viewers. We don't like it like that because we don't want your promo clips mixed in there pissing off our users and screwing with copyrights.

I was not clear as to how blocking all commercial content from the free section would help solve the problem of copyright. I really honestly believe this is a good solution. It's not some tactic. Fuck sakes people, we're Canadians! We're nice people!

Blocking commercial content from the free section will make it super easy to locate and delete stolen content, and ban the user who uploaded it, along with everything else they have uploaded. There is going to be a plainly visible button that will immediately remove the user and all of their uploads. This button will be available to all users, including the XTube staff - for chance encounters, because we're not allowed to police the site.

By increasing the ease and speed of removal we're able to eliminate all offending content, and you guys can focus your anger on the other tube sites who are too chicken to show up at shows, or even make their contacts freely available. Oh, on that point, Kurtis was not at Internext to 'make nice' with WMs. He was invited BY THE SHOW to be a speaker. YOU people wanted him there, and then you get all pissy about it - HA! Too funny.

Anyways, if Kurtis was as poorly behaved as you guys say he was, then he earned the shots he got. I will believe him over you guys though, just my loyalty talkin there.

I actually use the tube sites to promote my shit, so I'm not trying to bash you at all. I take the view that we shouldn't be mad at the tube sites... we should be mad at (and boycott) the advertisers who run their banners on the tube sites.

Here is another interesting bit of information - At the AEE (the reason we were in Vegas) we were asked to stop by one of the largest booths on the upper level. The owner of XTube and myself went and listened to this major content producer talk about how fighting a changing industry is stupid. His idea is to work together with us, and when the paperwork is finish there will be a press release, where you will find out whom it was and what the details are, and how it is a better idea than fighting without our keyboards. :321GFY

By the way - to every other hardworking content PRODUCING webmaster reading this thread.... I'm not taking about having my entire scenes (or yours) posted on these tube sites when I was saying I've worked them to my advantage. I'm taking about a 3-5 minute teaser of my own stuff with a URL watermarked that I myself posted.

Even though I work the tube sites to my advantage I still don't promote ANY of the advertisers in ANY form that I find advertising banners on their sites because I know a lot of unauthorized full scenes are posted by users everyday, and I won't support a company that gets paid off stolen content.

btw, any tube owners reading this that are interested in making legitimate deals on content and it makes sense to me, i will hear any and all pitches. contrary to popular belief we are adapting and innovating at a pace that most are not going to be able to keep up with. you shall see soon what i mean. we are leaders not followers. evolution is a certainty and i don't intend to be left behind or sitting on the sidelines. monetizing the future is a definite for us, but you know what they say, if it don't make dollas, it don't make sense.
