quick css question about dashed borders on divs

say i have something like this on a grey background.

#div {
width:500px;
background: white;
text-align: center;
border: 1px black dashed;
}

the dashed border goes around the outside of the white div with grey in between the dashes. is there a way i can have the blacked dashed line over the white background so it is a white and black dashed border as opposed to a black and grey dashed border? know what i'm sayin?

doesn't seem to do it. i'd rather not have to set it inside another div just to get the look i'm wanting here.

That was my solution!

A white DIV higher than your original DIV
