$2,500. car and a guarantee of higher gas prices.

"Tata Company Chairman Ratan Tata announces the newly launched Tata Nano at the 9th Auto Expo in New Delhi, India, Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008. India's Tata Motors unveiled its much anticipated US$2,500 car, an ultracheap price tag that suddenly brings car ownership into the reach of tens of millions of people across the world"

Well Americans, our thirst for cheaper products and higher corporate profits led to out-sourcing and almost complete exodus of the manufacturing sector.
The jobs this has brought India and China has of course increased the oil consumption of their factories and the prosperity while increasing the quality of life has also created more competition for limited oil reserves.

Were cheaper prices at Wal-Mart worth the soaring gas prices additional millions of drivers will bring? Fuck no. $3.00 per gallon gas prices will soon be considered cheap.

The fact though, it was either allow for these nations to come up to prosperous levels or forever give them ineffective aid. As much as higher gas prices hit everyone, and particularly in the West with the knock on effect to working families of higher inflation > higher mortgage rates, perhaps it is needed in order to make it more economical for alternatives power sources to take off. I am sure no electric car company (of which there are very few serious ones) really sighs when gas prices go up. If they keep going at current rates, I predict within 10 years a large proportion of new cars will be battery powered or otherwise.

Good points but any reduction in aid won't increase the take home pay of any of us. Electric cars will hit the market for the wrong reasons, suddenly cost competitive rather than efficient.

my honda spree scooter back in the ealry 90s had bigger wheels lol

BUT higher gas prices will not deliver electric trucks. what about all the trucks that are local. For example: the guy that distributes Wise potato chips or Peppridge Farm Bread and has a route.... these products are going to double, triple in cost soon too due to gas prices....

No you let disease and starvation wipe out 3/4 of the country because it's too fucking populated. India is 1/3 of the size of the United States and has 4 times the people. To put it in perspective, imagine California with 135 million people. Or the whole US with 4.5 billion people. That's India. When CHINA of all places has 1/3 your population density you're fucking up.

I disagree. I think it's creating a market, which will in turn create competition that will bring further efficiency. Electric cars are already becoming rather efficient and realistic though. If you look at Tesla Motors for instance I think you will see the future, and big car companies will take their lead and further the market as it becomes more realistic. Laptop batteries (the kind used by Tesla) are already improving at a storage rate of 10% per year, so even without any major breakthroughs in 10 years time we could well have $20k family cars that can travel 400 miles on a single charge.

I don't really disagree that they are overpopulated, and overpopulating this planet, but I don't know that allowing 3/4 of their population to be wiped out is really a solution, much as it may free up the worlds resources.

You know your county is fucked up when if you're "1 in a million" that still means there are over 1000 others exactly like you.

Then again what we are looking at is a market created by bad policy decisions and escalating costs that will prove devastating until that technology becomes the norm.

We needed electric or other forms of energy driven transportation, we just don't need the economic blow that's soon to come. Also having these future cars produced in India or China for cost reasons doesn't really help our economy.

Yea but that includes how much in taxes? Also look at it in percentage increases. Have your prices doubled or tripled over the last few years? What will happen if your price goes up to $20. because of increased demand.

It's the increase in future demand that will hit every one of us.

If India or China had engaged in world wide imperialism like England, France, Spain and other European countries then their populations would be more spread out through the world and thus less population in their countries.

So they are "fucked up" because they didn't engage in world wide imperialism.

PS: Another way to look at it is imagine if all english decendents in North America, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand etc...were all packed back into England right now! So imperialism is the reason England doesn't have 1 billion people.

Doesn't matter if it ever reaches Europe, the home and third world countries it does reach will boost oil prices.

True, compared to income we've got "cheap" prices (compared to other european countries). Tax was 64% in 2006 and the prices has been pretty much stabil after 1998.

However, Norway is a large producer of oil and gas and profit on an increased price.. our petrolium fund is growing to insane propotions every day (about 96% of the profit from oil and gas is put into a fund investing the money)...

Japan invaded China and Korea. Japan was the imperialistic nation in the region. China built like this big fucking wall to stop invasions in either direction. It's a really famous wall but the name slips my mind right now.
Well, anyway it was a "Great Wall".

It will bite our asses ONLY if we dont do something about the amount of fuel each vehicle uses per mile. If you have a car that gets 80 mph, I dont think 3 dollars is going to bug you much.

China has been around for thousands of years. You know of nothing that happen before the recent past. Go and tell me what happpened 4000 years ago fucktard. Did you build a time machine? Chinese warlords often attacked each other in order to gain territory. Now STFU shithead.

Also durring the korean war I beleive China entered korea. Go ask any vet that served in that war who they were fighting.

Most European countries are very small. Doesn't take much gas to go from one side to the other. Also they have public transportation.

I can't believe we are buying oil cheaper that other countries, are we? The higher cost must be a form of user tax by the government. Our government has other ways to hit us up for money. Don't know if that's a fair example.

4000 years ago would be about the Xia Dynasty where there is no mention from there to anytime in the future of invading Japan.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xia_Dynasty

During the Korean war, China entered, not invaded, Korea to help North Korea repell US forces into the south.
