according to the system stats no... when I check activity monitor as well as istat I have not had a 100% on this core 2 duo yet.. am I doing something wrong? is my computer fucked? if so then tell me why it renders faster than a 4000 dollar windows machine? oh let me guess I have to mess with the settings on the windows machine to get the tru speed right?

look I do not know the inner workings of computers or processors but I do know this... ive been on computers the better part of half my life and with just recently switching over to mac about 6 months ago.. I am very pissed I did not make the switch earlier... everything works and it works fast....

Funny, I think the wireless mighty mouse is easier to set up and use with as much, if not more, function than nearly every other mouse I've seen.

I run mac because I like the stability of *nix, but I like being able to natively run comercial apps like photoshop and office.

I can be productive in *nix, Mac, or Windows. My macs just give me a lot better performance, better stability, and its just sexier. I always built custom high end PCs for all my old computers. They worked fine, but after 10+ years of doing that you kind of get sick of all the bullshit that comes with it. Windows blue-screening, shit just deciding not to work, having to restart every couple days because of memory leaks and things.

Its easy to talk shit about macs and reject them because you cant afford one, or because you tried Mac OS 8 once and didn't like it.

Please, it's Mac. Not MAC. Never has been MAC, never will be, as that means something totally different.

Apple just has a different philosophy in general. Their own top quality hardware, operating system and majority of software, make for a stable working environment. Instead of pulling each piece from thousands of different companies.

It works for me, I'll never go back to PC.

I like that my 18 month old Macbook runs faster than it did when I purchased it.

I like OSX, but still need Windows. I can run both on all but 1 of the Macs we have here.

That's pretty much it. Apple service has been great too.

As far as I know Asus manufactures hardware for Apple laptops. So what's the difference? Are they more stable than Asus notebooks running Windows. I think not. It's more about OS than hardware advantages/disadvantages.

It' about the controlled environment Mac OS would likely run like shit on alot of computers, Apple controls that by producing nice machines and a nice OS, which together are amazing, that's why Apple will NEVER release OS X to other computer companies .. the quality will suffer hardcore..

They don't have to deal with 1 million different possible configurations etc like windows does.

I've been running vista via bootcamp and its a nice improvement over XP once all the kinks are worked out, but OS X is IMO the superior OS by far for the reasons I mentioned above.

It just works, with no fucking around.
Apple also hasn't alienated their customers by releasing such different OS's so far apart, they release an update every couple of months that slowly brings you closer to their next "OS" so when you do upgrade your not fucking lost like I was with vista after using XP for 10 years.

it's a dangerous way for Windows to release things, cause alot of people figure if there's that much change, why not switch to mac if they have to relearn everything anyway.

Should check out Apple's Logic. Not that you cant do anything with it that you cant do with the other suites, but its pretty damn nice

Its nice to have it fixed and back in my hands inside a week at no cost.

If your doing rendering and the computer is not working at 100% then its not doing it as fast as it can. I think you are full of it, doubt you even have a mac.

I *can* run photoshop and render video at the same time, and it doesnt lag for me, but they both complete operations in about double the time as when they are the sole program doing hard work. Which makes sence, now instead of having 100% of the computer power they only have 50% each.
Uploading and IM doesnt take enough resources to slow down rendering or photoshop work.

You buddy got a bunk machine, that is far outside the median.

I am running Vista Ultimate

1. No its not. Lay down the crack pipe.

2. Odd, Intel doesnt make a "Mac" version of their chips. So how can it be a step ahead?

3. lol, You must be the leader of a Mac Fanboy club somewhere.

4. Most things for windows work right out of the box, plug and play.

Can you define this "a lot of processing power" that antivirus software uses?
I didnt run any antivirus for a long time, and still had no problems. but resently put Nod32 on, it uses so little processing power that with the monitor open when I open or close the antivirus and only see a tiny blip while opening or closing, but then goes right back to normal idle.

As a "power user" if your running a 64 bit version of Vista you can run 128+GB of ram. Well thats what it can support at least.

I would put money on there being as many or more free programs for windows then there are for the Mac.

1. I have never used a mac, but have used them a lot in school, even the new intel ones.
2. older Macs should just be called POS's and left to rot.
3. The same thing happens with Vista, biggest is Ram allocation, which vista is actually very good at.

The big thing I hate about Macs is simply the price, and the fact that you can not configure them how you really want.
I mean 700 bucks to go from 2gb ram to 4gb in the MB. 200 to go from a 5400rpm drive to a 7200rpm drive. No internal wireless N abilities.
Etc Etc.

Sure most people say "just buy the basic and upgrade it cheaper after from newegg" but thats bunk.
For the base price on the MBP 15" 2.4Ghz machine I can build a Dell XPS 1530 that is twice as fast and has accidental damage coverage, and still have money left over to buy a nice 21" monitor and second battery. Not to mention the 1530 is lighter then the MB too.

That said if Apple had a 50% off day so the price was competative with the likes of Dell I bet they would almost even out the market share on that day.
Sorry, Vista only supports something like 8 gig of ram at the moment. There was an error in Vista that prevented it from using more.. Microsoft "Fixed the glitch" by reporting in the hardware information the real amount of RAM you have... but the OS can still only take advantage of 8, no matter how much you put in the machine.

People use OSX, because of crap like that.

Just got an iMac... I have barely touched my PC since. Once I get the Mac Book Pro, I'll probably never touch one again.
Off topic I used to use Acdsee Pro for watermarking my pics. Anyone know of a good Mac program for that? I just hate having to separately batch PS for Portrait and Landscape photos.

I'm just a bash.org fiend and am a shitty user of a linux os. Windows I gave up on because I'm too cheap to buy an OS anymore, I'm too lazy to call in and register that shit if I have to rebuild and there's no way I'm buying a Mac....Every time I touch a Mac, visit a Mac store, meet a Mac fan or anything Mac (though I have an Ipod and it's a great portable drive of sorts) I get sick inside. Fuck you Mac fanboys.

Regardless, here's my bash.org quote for the thread:

now .. as far as accidental coverage and I may be wrong on this but when you buy the apple care plan with your mbp or imac or macpro.. you get everything covered for 3 years.. ive had keys replaced (for free) my buddy dropped his mbp the other day on the paintball field and broke the screen from the unit (if you can picture what im saying) we took it to the mac store here in the mall... the genius looked at it.. saw he had apple care plan went in the back grabbed him a NEW mbp in the box took it out.. transfered the hard drive over and we were on our way... does dell do that or do you have to send it in? now ive posted my set up once now to show my mac... I can show you the 4 comps that this little MBP replaced as well if you like... want me to take a pic of everything?

now do yourself a favor go get the 15 inch 2.4 macbook pro.. as far as the ram go's 2 will do you great.. im only running 2 right now... I am going to go 4 in the future but really no need... only reason im doing it is because it can... as far as the 7200 vs. 5400 for the hd's... who cares... if your like me you have terabyte after terabyte of externals anyways... shit in that pic right there is a seagate 300gig. 160 gig is plenty for on the road stuff then when back in the office you hook up to externals...
You have a very lucky friend. Our "Apple Store" around here is BestBuy. you MUST send in for ANY warranty issues. 3-6 week turn around. Does not cover accidental damage or water damage.
This is from a Mac fan boy at best buy, he seemed to know a lot, but I guess I should talk to someone else.

Dells coverage, they send you a box that gets here next day with a packing slip. Drop it off. 3-5 days later you have your machine back fixed. Even if you were sitting on a floaty in a pool and feel a sleep and it slipped off into the pool. Or at starbucks and had coffee spilled on it. Or in the airport and someones bag knocks it off onto the floor. Dell fixed those all on my GF's laptop, and that is just in the last 8 months. Her laptop has been in like 12 times in the 2 years she has had it. And the most down time was 5 days.
If Apple could actually do that, it would make it a lot easier for me to buy one.

I want the 7200rpm drive so when I am working with large files its quick, it has nothing to do with hard drive space.

I REALLY need to get a laptop here. Every day I look at the 15" 2.2Ghz MBP, with AppleCare its $2600 CDN.
But then I go to dell and build the XPS 15.4" 2.4Ghz, with complete coverage, Wireless N, 7200rmp drive. And its $2100 CDN.
But if I buy from the kiosk at the mall or phone and ask for a discount I can get 15% off on the dell. So now its only $1785.

I can find lots of ways to spend $815 bucks. Especially since I am getting a faster machine.
Aperture is a nice program though, but its 350 more bucks.... Apple just doesn't seem to stack up. I mean I still haven't settled though. So I guess that says something.
Also http://www.apple.com/support/products/proplan.html doesn't mention anything about accidental damage anywhere, it does however say it "Extends hardware repair coverage to three years from computer's purchase date" so basically just defects.
Dells site calls it Accidental Damage coverage.

I had my broken power cable replaced by the Apple Store today. Been out of AppleCare for a few months, and they just took it and gave me a new one off the shelf. Cost on the fucker was $89, which would have probably sucked to have to pay...but I didn't, so I can't complain.

Because I got tired of Windblows and all of it's kinks. It seems like every 5 minutes you have to unfreeze your system. No matter how much I paid for a great computer I still had to use the shitty operating system. Mac is much more stable.

I tried to find just an Apple Store here, but no go, only Best Buys carry Apple computer locally. Kinda gay. I remember an Apple store in San Fran that was pretty neat.

I just wish I could find somewhere in writing that said the Apple Care would cover accidental damage too.

When I google "applecare covering accidental damage" I am overwhelmed with "NO!" as the answer.
For 400 bucks ontop of an already over priced piece of hardware I should get sucked off for needing to have anything fixed in the first place.

Best Buy guy said he could throw in mouse pad but thats the only deal he could do. A fucking mouse pad. And if I could get someone with a valid student ID I could get 100 dollars off. But then everything would need to be in that persons name.

Dell this morning as the Kiosk at the mall said he could get me the computer I used above plus upgrade it to 4gb ram and a larger 7200rmp drive for the same 1800 tax and shipping in.

I fail to see how the applecare could be better when they specifically dont cover accidental coverage.

I bet if apple had a sale, 50% off for a week, that they close the market share gap between mac and windows pretty damn good.

I do want the MBP, but seriously 800 bucks to have a heavier, slower computer just doesn't make any sense to me. I mean sure there are quirks with Vista, but not 800 dollars worth of them, as for the most part I never have problems. My uptime is usually only interrupted when the breaker flips and my UPS runs out of juice before its turned back on.
