Pomeranian or Pug??

We are going to be getting a dog and can't decide between a pomeranian or a pug. What do you suggest?

Ummmm... neither?

Though my resident expert say of the two, a pug because you don't have to groom them constantly and are less bitchy.

Or you could get a real dog.

Gotta go with a pomeranian. They are extremely smart and aren't nearly as ugly as a pug. You don't have that snoring noise to deal with either. :D

If it's for a chick, SHIH TZU!
They're like cats.. but with dog quality.

Just check out the parents to make sure they're not coming from inbred or fucked up parents.

I have more photos and some video that I'm ripping down to the computer now. I'll post some when I have it done. I'm gonna keep one and the rest are going to family members. The other two will be here for at least another 4 months. They're just starting to be "fun".

Just make sure you have a lot of money put aside if you get a pug. They can be costly since they have unnatural faces. Their face is literally pushed in, which can cause all kinds of health problems. They are very funny and loving dogs though. They're like little clowns.

That's usually something that can be verified before you take your pug home. The one with issues didn't make it past day 4. The rest of the bunch is more than likely going to be free from issue. They are more susceptible to respiratory issues. I haven't had any issues.

Lots of Pug owners here on GFY. Young pups, and healthy old adult dogs. Bump this on Monday and see what kind of response you get.

Neither. Go to you local shelter and pick up a poor little guy before he gets euthanized.

I'm afraid most puppy stores and backyard breeders aren't very honest. If they get one at the local shelter or from a professional breeder they will are sure to get the right information.

You didn't have any issues yet one of the pug puppies died?

The other puppies are free from defects. The one that died was pretty obvious. It wasn't something that had he lived anyone could have hid or passed off. In hindsight, he should have been put down immediately...but the Dr. didn't suggest it so we tried to keep him alive.

Yes, there are dishonest pet shops and breeders. That's why it's YOUR responsibility to do YOUR homework when it comes to selecting a breeder and bringing a puppy into the home.

Again, my point was that there are potentially hereditary issues that can come up, but they are a very small percentage. Defects are either obvious or checked/tested prior to the animal being sold. What was said above is a common misconception. Most breeds have "issues"..If you do your research and don't rush your decision you can find a great breeder and an issue free puppy fairly easily. Our breeder turned out to be less than 2 miles from my house and has been nothing but great even when we had puppies of our own.

A reputable breeder would have made an agreement with you that you spay/neuter your pug, and certainly would not have approved of you breeding him/her.

I have a lot of experience with both. The Pom requires slightly less work. Its easier to comb him than clean the Pugs nasty face. The Pug barks but not as much as a Pom. If a Pom sees a stranger he will bark until the stranger is out of sight. Pugs seem to be sturdier. I would not be worried about little kids hurting a Pug or the Pug hurting itself. A Pom will fuck itself up jumping off the couch and little kids are a HUGE NO NO. If you are a guy and want cute chicks to come over and pet your dog while you are walking it then pick the Pom.. hands down.
