Isn't it all the same stuff, just being made easier with new tools.

Back in the day it was set it and forget it. But the same concept. Build build build. At least for me that was the case. Same game, just a different face.

The second people in adult learned of blogs they built tools to automate them, turn them into tgps cause we all must give away even more free content, and typically make them spammy.

so um no it is not the next big thing.

I had to check the post date on this. I thought this HAD to be a thread from a few years back that someone bumped. The days of splogging have come and gone.

Google doesn't hate splogs, google's way of ranking sites is the reason why people fire up legions of splogs.

Ranking is all about links, it's a battle you can only win if you add more and stronger links to your sites than your competitors. That's why people automate, since growing and maintaining huge networks with all hand written stuff is pretty much impossible and way too much work, time vs. reward wise.

So, people grow huge bubbles of link laundering sites and link feeders around their "real" sites, and all of them need content, even better if these sites make money themselves.

SEO is often more about brute force link building techniques than about A -> B -> C trades.

the problem for a lotta webbies is coming up with something new that hasnt been done before some have good ideas and make it some have good ideas and dont make it past the first week things like that will eventually be left to die out as more and more new ideas come into the fold

(my emphasis in bold). Content automation was the weak spot of splogs before. But the rise of RSS-driven content rewrite engines (still crappy compared to actual REAL and useful content) has definitely given the SEs a harder time than the splogs that just list out viagra or pharma keywords.

what about real, authentic adult blogs?

i realize the majority of men (and women too) searching for porn just want to get off, not read an erotic story written by some girl behind a computer. but it's almost the novelty of the idea that appeals to me...also, writing is a hobby of mine so why not make a few bucks while i'm at it?

would it be a huge money maker? i don't think so. semi- profitable side hobby? i'm hoping. i think i've got enough charisma and writing skills to at least capture a small audience, i just need to figure out the content side of it (and no, i'm not about stealing content...that's lame).

so, what do you guys think? am i too naive? i'm ready for the haters...i can handle the criticism.

Although maybe a bit harder to monetize than the average porn blog, it's certainly a niche that's good for some nice traffic and bookmarkers. There are a few blogs of girls witing an online diary/erotic stories with tremendous results...but target the mainstream audience, not the porn surfers. Porn surfers don't value really sophisticated and extensive writing, they are focussed on optical stimulation. If there is no porn on your site you are more likely to get links from places that would never link to any adult stuff. Make it interactive, a bit community style.

As far as money is concerned: I don't have any numbers for comparable sites, but I'd tend to day nice side income.

If you are in it for the money only: Build, build, build...throw enough shit at the wall see what sticks. It's not like you'll re-invent the wheel in adult.

do what I did and write about the porn that you shoot..If you're good, you WILL get a following and you could make some change from it too...I was "blogging" on my site WAY before the term was even coined.

the site I'm talking about it www.blackvaginafinder.com

Now if you want to write erotic stories with no porn, I don't know anything about that...

By the time you think to ask if it's the next big thing, it's already dying.

Are tech stocks the next big thing?

Is real estate the next big thing?

Are mortgage backed securities the next big thing?

By the time everyone says it's the next big thing, it's already on the other side of the hill.

...and the cost of playing the game gets higher and as the market matures and gets either more saturated or more jaded, potential revenues plummet

They aren't the next big thing, but it isn't old news or dead. Most people saying splogs are shit and don't work are the ones that don't run a network or have never tried or put a good effort into running splogs.

Of course the ones receiving thousands of hits a day from their splog networks will STFU also because they don't need more competition.

So either way your only gonna get bad things said about splogs. My suggestion is to try various types of sites out for you and see which you can make successful. Most times when you get negative responses to certain types of techniques these techniques actual work if you put effort into it.

<<<<how to make money with splogs

From a Google POV its over. Yahoo still eats them up though especially if hosted on authoritative domains that allow you to host content. Think parasite seo. It wont last though...... Not worth pouring resources into it if you plan on doing it on a grand scale.
