Gateway or HP? Specifically these ... which one would you pick?

To me they look like they have pretty similar features and I couldn't find any user or pro reviews.

I know - neither Gateway or HP are GREAT but for $900 for basic usage which one of them would you pick and why?

Thanks in advance for your educated reply

the gateway doesnt look to bad. Why not dell? I have a compaq but it seems like everyone and their momma has a dell now. And if you're on XP now, dont get that fucked up vista on the new computer. Some may like it but this shit is horrible.

be careful - at least with HP i know that their latest consumer stuff is designed for Vista and no XP drivers may exist - you can't downgrade. if you want that - as i would do it - check that before you buy

your looking at all the wrong companies. Go with Dell the laptops they are CHEAP <$800 and they offer the best support I have ever had.

Splurge a little. How many hours a day do you spend in front of your PC?
How much will it cost you when something breaks and you have to send it back in?

Dell has been to my place prolly 5 times to replace motherboards, fans even a new mother board when I put new ram in backwards and fried it .

Interesting. I don't know how to find out if it's possible without testing it out after the fact - just took it for granted that it would be

Luckily Costco has a 90 day return policy though on these.

I'm not really looking for another laptop.

I was in Costco today and saw both of these. More of a spur of the moment thing with a little extra thought after the fact

LOL

I'm already at

Starting Price $2,153
Instant Savings $278
Subtotal $1,893

That's not spur of the moment enough

although I have not the experiece with either I would choose HP over gateway...

gateway is shit...

HP is many products refined... compaq and a copuple others all owned by one another...

ive had friends with shitty gateway computers.... mind you this was back in the day when windows 98 rocked and shit was prone to crashing... so...

Been running my new HP with Vista pretty hard for nearly 3 months now and absolutely no complaints.

In fact, I enjoy this laptop more than I thought I ever would.... and I still don't see what the fuss about Vista is... I've done more with this thing than 95% of laptops out there, I'm sure... not one bug

Use Dell outlet on their website.

You save TONS of money. Get the same computer and get it fast.
