gear heads (non porn)

Is it me or is this guy using a small block Chevy V8 in this P51 Mustang replica?

I would have thought a V-8 would be a bad choice because of rev limits and weight. However it damn sure looks like a V8 to me. Oddly enough it's also sitting in the normally forward position. I would have thought using a typical V-8 like that would require the engine to be turned backwards.

I know here in Florida small block Chevy V-8's are pretty commonly used on air boats. Just seems oddd they would use one for a plane.

you can see more of the plane here

Yea you are right. I didn't even think to count the exhaust ports. I looked at the valve covers and the general layout and thought it looked like a small block. However yea you are right it has 5 ports so it's some sort of V-10.

I came across one using a 500 HP big block Chevy engine but it wasn't a very good looking replica. Then I saw this one and thought it looked like a small block.
