although its hard to have sympathy for a couple of theives, they need to chare that guy with a crime. the reason that law is in place is because "we" have determined that property is not worth a life, all else equal.

In Texas, where this took place, you _ARE_ allowed to defend your property with lethal force.

I have firearms, I also would only use reasonable force to defend myself and my family. If I caught someone inside the house, yes very well they could end up dead or at least shot. However if they were trying to flee I would not engage or fire on them. In such an instance I am the one now in control and the level of personal danger has shrunk considerably.

I have no desire to kill another person. I will defend my family though with lethal force if required. I will not kill someone caught in the act and attempting to flee or whom is now on the defensive. Hell worst case is they do indeed get shot in the fucking knees.

Guess this is also why I have my shotgun loaded as follows. Salt, bird shot, buckshot, slugs. Ya that salt could be the life of me one day if someone else has a gun and fires back, however I figure that goes beyond the scope of rare and the extra safety is reassuring. Less chance of someone getting killed with the gun.
