although its hard to have sympathy for a couple of theives, they need to chare that guy with a crime. the reason that law is in place is because "we" have determined that property is not worth a life, all else equal.
due to whatever circumstances, they can give him a slap on the wrist, but imho they would send a bad message if they dont charge him with anything
