I'm not telling you how to raise your kids but I really don't think any parent should get their kids luxury cars. How is that going to help them learn the value of hard work? Everything that I've had I've worked and paid for my entire life.

Exactly.... :2 cents:

Twisted Dave 11-09-2007 05:58 PM

Oh ignore me.

Rui 11-09-2007 06:01 PM

And what about...

Edit: Not the S5 but the "normal S-line" 3.0 diesel (or 3.2 otto :X)

danevans 11-10-2007 03:40 AM

I had the old A4 (4cyl though, not s/rs4) for about two years and no problems with it at all, cannot imagine that the new model is any less reliable..

Minte 11-10-2007 07:52 AM

Never a lack of opinions on GFY, :)

We are going in to the dealer this morning so she can test drive them both.
Good news is she only is interested in 6sp.

viencarl 11-10-2007 07:55 AM

For my opinion ill go for the cheapest one cuz cars are not for showoff but for traveling *being practical only* "PEACE" :) :) :) :) :) :)

Jason 11-10-2007 08:52 AM

I like my A4. :)

I leased my daughter a 3 series and she trashed it. So when the lease was up, I got her got a Ford Fusion that she now pays for.

ztik 11-10-2007 09:02 AM

a4's are for poor people

a8 is where its at

either way, make her get a job, and buy her some pos car. She should earn it herself, unless you want her to be some superficial gold digger (like my g/f lol)

buzzy 11-10-2007 09:12 AM

only thing that makes a car safe is the driver. :2 cents:

Get her a renault clio.

Yah wise choice. Thats what I said.. There's no better way to tell what you want than driving them both. Good luck.

I was planning on getting her a BMW 3 series, but she really wants the Audi.

This is what your daughter really wants:

It slips through bollards, can be parked anywhere you can drag it and goes faster the more you lose weight.

Minte 11-10-2007 02:29 PM

You obviously didn't read any of the thread.
She is a law student, she is interning 3 days a week in the district attorneys office helping to put criminals in jail. When she finishes school and passes the bar that is what she will be doing for her career.

BTW, I looked at the A8 when she test drove the A4, it's a battleship.
I have college age kids and I'm not old enough to drive that.
I'll stick with my Lamborghini,Porsche's and Benz for a few more years.

Ryan St. Germain 11-10-2007 02:58 PM

There are lot's of people with statements about how they "don't want to tell you how to raise your daughter, BUT..."

My dad sold me my first car, and it was a piece of shit. I had to dump paycheck after paycheck into keeping it running, and i lost one job from it breaking down.

That being said, I was having the same debate between bwm and audi, but after a terrible time at the ONLY bmw dealership around, i've made up my mind to go with audi. Look into the service centers in your area particularly and see what their reps are like. All cars need service at some point, but if you start hearing stories about how a dealership took 6 days to replace a battery, you know you've got trouble.

Minte 11-10-2007 03:11 PM

We're lucky here in Madison, one dealership sells all of them. Porsche,Audi,BMW and Mercedes. And I am a good longterm customer there.
We ended up buying an A4 quatro today. She really liked it,and I couldn't find any reason not to go with it.

I knew the minute I posted this thread that there would be a percentage of GFY'ers that would know more about what is right for my family than I do.
I would've been surprised if it had been any other way. :winkwink:

Fluid 11-10-2007 03:13 PM

there's a couple of them actually around here, but they're dealership promo cars I believe. You watch, they'll release it in june and make us wait :(

I might have to stop by the dealership on the way home from work this week and see what it would cost to get out of the 3, and into the twin turbo 1 ;)

clicker 11-10-2007 04:05 PM

I think you should let her buy her own car. What is the point of you handing her something she might not be able to afford on her own.

What if she changes her mind and becomes not the attorney you thought she wanted to be. A better lesson would be to help her buy one. Negotiate one with her budget not yours. This is a nice gestuer but not the smartest one regardless of if you can afford. Be thankful you have the time to actually teach something of value for things not reward her for doing what is expected.

Minte 11-10-2007 04:33 PM

She's a college student. She can barely afford tennis shoes.
Besides,it's an Audi not a Aston-Martin. It's a low $30,000 dollar car.

Maybe i'll get her a Lamborghini Spyder for the summer. Then GFY can really have something to chew on.

Sid70 11-10-2007 05:10 PM

Go for a sexy Alfa Romeo.

Actually I think this is one of the few instances where I would consider getting my kid a car. I mean here you have a daughter who is doing her part and showing pretty huge initiative going to law school. My own parents certainly weren't shy about helping me out during the few times in my life when I needed it.

Although they never bought me a car they DID help me out financially one or two times, not the least of which was when I injured my back at work back in '97 and had to seek an entirely new career for myself. It was a time of crisis and huge change in my life, and I'll never forget the help they provided me.

No, in this case I think Minte's doing the right thing. He's proud of his daughter and not only wants to help her along but wants to reward her for all the initiative she's shown. It's not everyone's kid that goes through law school, certainly not everyone's kid does exceedingly well amongst those who DO go.

Maybe she'll go into internet law and we can all hire her. :D

Minte 11-10-2007 08:55 PM

I hope it is as good a winter car as advertised. She has to drive country roads nearly 50 miles each way to the court house. And the snow is just around the corner.

bu((aneer 11-10-2007 09:16 PM

Fuck the car, post a pic of your daughter! ;)

sltr 11-10-2007 10:17 PM

congrats on the new car!
what color did she choose?

BlueDesignStudios 11-10-2007 11:51 PM

congrats on the purchase! Post some pics (along with your other cars) once you take delivery :)

Bods4Mods 11-11-2007 12:10 AM

Sounds like a great car for a great girl. Good job Dad!

cutievids 11-11-2007 01:22 AM

get her a used car... your gallardo :)

bausch 11-11-2007 01:55 AM

I'm bitter because my parents never bought me anything nice growing up. Seriously. I'm still bitter about it. I get annoyed when I see parents buying their kids nice shit. I wish I got some nice shit growing up. Ugh. I really am still bitter about it.

Ross 11-11-2007 05:15 AM

I bought my first car at 18 years old and my mum paid half of it for me so I could afford it. She also never charged me money like all my friends parents did while living at home :)

fishbone 11-11-2007 06:51 AM

if anyone would like to buy me a bmw, i could be persuaded to accept.
i might even be willing to paint your house.

salesman 11-11-2007 07:53 AM

I like the design of AUDI, their cars are really nice, sporty. If I had that money, I would prefer an AUDI instead of a BMW. everyone else has a BMW, why should I ? :)

Minte 11-11-2007 08:34 AM

This is what the car we got looks like. I didn't take a camera so this is from the Audi site. It's metallic gray Quattro with all the packages and a 6sp. I'll grab a few pics this week. We are picking it up tuesday.

It wouldn't stop the act of the car getting stolen, but it probably means she knows better than most how to go after the criminal and how to claim insurance if the insurance company start getting funny.

By the way, quotes are b0rked.

An Audi RS4 in the UK costs 50K pounds sterling......I don't believe you
buy a 2007 M3 in the UK for 25K pounds sterling :thumbsup

You DO realize there's a new M3 on the market with a high-rev'ing V8 and 420 bhp?
