I love so many and it all depends on my mood..Killing An Arab is near the top..as is Let's Go To Bed..perhaps Charlotte Sometimes...Close To Me at times...so many

I love the entire Pornography album, but I also really love that song Other Voices. I don't remember which album that's from.

ServerGenius 11-07-2007 10:57 AM

There's no such thing as a good song when talking about the Cure.....

My personnal favorites are: A Strange Day , Fire In Cairo, Fascination Street, A Night Like This, A Forest, Lullaby, and so many more...It's really hard to choose

"Lovesong" is one of my favorite songs of all time.

Robert Smith wrote it for his girlfriend as a gift shortly before marrying her in 1989.

I dedicated that song to my wife, as I found it to sum up my undying love for her, despite all of my shortcomings...we're still married too.

I second that. I remember seeing the video for Love Song when I was 8 or 9, and although I was a little creeped out about how Robert Smith looked in that video, I was very moved by the song.

I got a serious interest about the Cure once I seen the Mike Leigh movie "Career girls" don't know them that in detail but I like "push" and "night like this" a lot.

u-Bob 11-07-2007 05:17 PM

a thread about "The Cure"?! wtf, people have been shot for less. :)

bhutocracy 11-07-2007 05:53 PM

It's kind of impossible to choose a favourite song. I'm with sarah on this one.. It depends on mood. The range across so many genres.

Boy's Don't Cry is irrepressible. All Cats are Grey is a masterpiece. The Exploding Boy is one of the best songs never to make it onto an album. Charlotte Sometimes is a perfect lament. Inbetween Days and Close to Me are two of the best pop songs ever written.. by anyone... ever.
So many are unique and are perfect history markers for what you may have been doing at the time... A night like this... dressing up.. six different ways.. the perfect girl.. lets go to bed... the upstairs room... three imaginary boys.. Fire In Cairo... So many albums where it's hard to pick a single song, but taken in their entirety are incredible.. like Disintegration.

fan much? ;)

favourite moment would have had to have been the Sydney 2001 finale of boys don't cry, 10:15 and Killing an Arab (might be a little off here)

That's "Lullaby":

Quote:

The Cure - Lullaby Lyrics

spy something begining with S.......

On candystripe legs the spiderman comes
Softly through the shadow of the evening sun
Stealing past the windows of the blissfully dead
Looking for the victim shivering in bed
Searching out fear in the gathering gloom and
Suddenly!
A movement in the corner of the room!
And there is nothing I can do
And I realise with fright
That the spiderman is having me for dinner tonight!

Quietly he laughs and shaking his head
Creeps closer now
Closer to the foot of the bed
And softer than shadow and quicker than flies
His arms are around me and his tongue in my eyes
"Be still be calm be quiet now my precious boy
Don't struggle like that or I will only love you more"
But it's much too late to get away or turn on the light
The spiderman is having you for dinner tonight

And I feel like I'm being eaten
By a thousand million shivering furry holes
And I know that in the morning I will wake up
In the shivering cold

The spiderman is always hungry...

Disintegration - Disintegration for sure

i never said i would stay to the end
so i leave you with babies and hoping for frequency
screaming like this in the hope of the secrecy
screaming me over and over and over
i leave you with photographs
pictures of trickery
stains on the carpet and
stains on the scenery
songs about happiness murmured in dreams
when we both us knew
how the ending would be

Absolutely beautiful

STOP IT YOU WANNABES!!!!

Now that you're warned I'd say at least 50% of every album until "Standing on a Beach" (or "Staring at the Sea", no mistake, "Standing on a beach" was the vynil and cassette tape version, "Staring at the sea" is the CD version with more tracks. Both names comes from "Killing an Arab" lyrics) is FUCKING GREAT. My personal taste tends to go to "Faith" and "Pornography", hence I'd choose "Faith", "All Cats Are Grey, "The Drowning Man" and "The Funeral Party" from the first one and "Siamese Twins", "A Short Term Effect" and "A Strange Day". I cannot leave out of the list "Another Day", "Fire in Cairo", "Subway Song", "A Forest", "Play for Today", "In Your House", "Charlotte Sometimes" (this and "Faith" are my top 2), "The Baby Screams", "A Night Like This", "Shake Dog Shake" and so on.

Take that noobs! :winkwink: http://smiliesftw.com/x/emo.gif

No I love it.. I like their poppy stuff as much as the rest of it. I was never a total goth head kill-myself-during-a-faith-concert type.

Sarah_Jayne 11-08-2007 04:41 AM

I have never seen them live. They are the last band left on my 'must see before I die' list. They very rarely play London despite being from here but they are playing Wembley in March but the tickets are sold out. ARGH. I may have to travel to see them at some point.

Damn I stand corrected ! Never knew that, and I bought the "Standing On The Beach" cassette the first week it came out !

Tony, you can bitch slap me for correcting you next time you see me.

How did I forget Play for Today in my first post. Add Desintegration, Dressing Up, Catch, The Snakepit, In your House, Plastik Passion, The Blood, Meathook, Friday I'm in Love ( yes, it's pop but still good), The Empty World and I could go on...Oh, and add Another Day.
