Yup, my first computer was a $5000 Tandy 25Mhz machine.
Insane to think that you get 8 gig flash drives for $100'ish these days. |

Scary thing is I'll bet that unit is less prone to failure than the ones we have today... usually is that way... the first release of a product is the best in terms of reliability... then its all downhill from there.

My first was a pc-xt with 20mb HD and a whopping 640k ram. Don't forget the turbo button and twin 5.25 floppy drives. Had a monochrome monitor that we later upgraded to a Sperry RGB color monitor.
I think it cost us about $2200 at the time. |

I also still have a stack of blank IBM (Hollerith) cards from when I operated a shipboard Sperry/Univac 1500 system in 1970.. Some things just need to be hung on to I guess.. ![]() |

That wasn't that long ago. I still remember when most applications were run on DOS and hardly anyone had Windows. Sometimes, I think it was much more efficient back in those days.
I still remember when it was $800 for a 16 MB RAM upgrade and when if you had 32 MB of RAM, you had a fucking powerhouse. heh, I bought a bunch of shit in a government surplus auction a couple years back and on this one pallet there was this rack mount thing that still had vacuum tubes in it, has to be old as hell. It was buried under some reel to reel units that came with the deal. Still have it around here somewhere, would be curious to know what the fuck it was. Its military or communications something or another. No one was bidding, so I put a bid in and won the skid for $10. Figured the scrap value was worth at least several times that, so why not. |

I would not be too surprised if those things would be worth some money in the future as collector's items/museum pieces.
