Do you wear contacts??
After spending most of my life wearing glasses I think I might go for contacts. But the thought of sticking my finger in my eye freaks me out. I also hear stories about contacts getting stuck behind the eyeball. ick.
Would you recommend them?

Contacts are super easy to use, you don't even know they're in there.
It will take you a while to get good at putting them in, but its really easy. Trust me, you'll wish you did it sooner.

If you keep your eyelids open wide enough and slip the contact on then shut the lids, you shouldn't have a problem getting used to it. Remember, unless it's a lens designed to keep in your eye for the entire month without removing - please remove your lenses before sleeping. In the cases where people have the contact stuck behing their eyeball, the patient either is living/working/sleeping in a very dry environment or they forgot to remove their contact lenses before going to sleep and the lens wasn't designed for 24 hour use. Normally, lenses with high water content & good expiry dates won't give you that problem.

You could either close your eyes and move it off your eye or just by putting your finger on the lens and sliding it off or simply pinch the lens off. As your optometrist/optician for trials so you can practice.

I wear contacts.. you get used to touching your eye.. no big deal... as for them getting stuck.. get soft contacts... if they ever roll out of place... they dont go far.. and its easy to just reach in and slide them back, once you see where its at in the mirror.

Taking them out is easier than putting them in, but even putting them in is really easy once you get used to it.

They don't get stuck behind your eye.
I tried to push them up one time and when it hit the top of the eye and I kept sliding it up, the contact started to crumple up and come off the eye. Meaning there is way for it to end up behind your eye. I found this at some website: Q. A lens will get lost behind my eye. A. No. A thin membrane covers your eye and connects to the inside of your eyelids, making this a physical impossibility.

![]() Contacts are like condoms. You do like to wear them but you have to wear it. Now it is your choice whether you want to use it or not.

![]() I wore contacts for a few months - couldn't get on with them - I had soft ones and they would pop out every now and again. Plus they don't mix well with alcohol.... I spent 1/2 an hour one night trying to get a lens out when I was drunk and just gave up. I woke up in the morning with my eye hurting like hell, so I rushed to the bathroom to get the lens out again - to remember I hadn't put my lenses in and I'd been scratching my eyeball out for that 1/2 hour. Nope, not for me, never again.

To clarify the getting stuck behind the eye. It's possible that it dries up and stays stuck under your upper lid & not on the iris. All it takes is eye drops or your natural tears to let it move back down. There are also cases of people having it stuck on the iris itself, again, because they slept with their lenses on. The truth of the matter is, the daily disposable lenses are the best way to go 1) if it comes in your prescription
2) if you can afford it Kat, if your contacts would pop out (while you were sober) that's because the right fit wasn't found for you, they were either too loose or too tight for your eye. |

orthokeratology... sounds cool. Anyone heard of this? It's like a retainer for your eye that you wear at night and during the day you wont need glasses or contacts... seems cool.
As for whether or not to wear contacts... well - I am going to pick up my prescription right now. Glasses are fine, but contacts are the best if you active. Ciao |

I wore them for a little while a few years back and REALLY liked the ease and convenience. At the time I was dancing in classes and in the university dance company. After taking classes all my life in a slight blurry haze (taking off my glasses so they wouldn't slide down my nose or get flung across the room) it was FABULOUS to take a class and see what I was doing! I don't wear them now because I got out of the habit and would need them represcribing. I'm seriously thinking of going back to them after the baby is born and has settled into a routine.

I wear contacts, colored ones blue, aqua blue, green, aqua green, brown, gold, purple, red, grey, and more. I like them. It only sucks if I leave them in for more then 24 hours

Skip right past contacts and into LASIK. No cleaning, no losing, no popping out, nothing getting stuck underneath, no drying out in the wind, etc.
Contacts are way better than glasses, but the surgery leaves you hassle-free. Unless there is a horrible accident and your vision is permanently destroyed. That is very rare, though. |

LASIK is interesting but for me, only as a last resort.
I am seriously considering this orthokeratology thing. may not be as clean cut as lasik, ubt at least if my eyes get worse I can change my ortho k prescription |

Contact lenses irritate initially but you get used to it afterwards when you start using it regularly. Operating the eyes scare me.
