Do you wear contacts??

After spending most of my life wearing glasses I think I might go for contacts. But the thought of sticking my finger in my eye freaks me out. I also hear stories about contacts getting stuck behind the eyeball. ick.

Would you recommend them?

Brown Bear 09-28-2002 02:02 AM

Contacts are super easy to use, you don't even know they're in there.

It will take you a while to get good at putting them in, but its really easy.

Trust me, you'll wish you did it sooner.

since I was 16.. and believe me.. that's a hell of a long time.

If you keep your eyelids open wide enough and slip the contact on then shut the lids, you shouldn't have a problem getting used to it. Remember, unless it's a lens designed to keep in your eye for the entire month without removing - please remove your lenses before sleeping. In the cases where people have the contact stuck behing their eyeball, the patient either is living/working/sleeping in a very dry environment or they forgot to remove their contact lenses before going to sleep and the lens wasn't designed for 24 hour use. Normally, lenses with high water content & good expiry dates won't give you that problem.

mastamindz 09-28-2002 02:23 AM

putting them in sounds easy, how about taking them out!

HS-Trixxxia 09-28-2002 02:29 AM

You could either close your eyes and move it off your eye or just by putting your finger on the lens and sliding it off or simply pinch the lens off. As your optometrist/optician for trials so you can practice.

I wear contacts.. you get used to touching your eye.. no big deal... as for them getting stuck.. get soft contacts... if they ever roll out of place... they dont go far.. and its easy to just reach in and slide them back, once you see where its at in the mirror.

LukieD 09-28-2002 02:57 AM

Yep..have been for years. Its really easy to get them in/out. Just takes a few days to get used to doing it.

Brown Bear 09-28-2002 02:59 AM

Taking them out is easier than putting them in, but even putting them in is really easy once you get used to it.

DjSap 09-28-2002 03:38 AM

the whole "behind the eyeball" thing is not true, not medicly possible...i use daily lenses that are also soft, they are called 1-day-acuvue and i recommend them higly...

tradermcduck 09-28-2002 03:57 AM

mastamindz,

contacts are a MUST !!!

Trust me, I have contacts since I am 15 and like Brown Bear already said you will definitely wish you'll did it sooner!

corvo 09-28-2002 04:32 AM

i'm sticking with my glasses :)

They don't get stuck behind your eye.
I tried to push them up one time and when it hit the top of the eye and I kept sliding it up, the contact started to crumple up and come off the eye. Meaning there is way for it to end up behind your eye.

I found this at some website:
Q. A lens will get lost behind my eye.
A. No. A thin membrane covers your eye and connects to the inside of your eyelids, making this a physical impossibility.

Oldy 09-28-2002 05:31 AM

Contacts are like condoms. You do like to wear them but you have to wear it. Now it is your choice whether you want to use it or not.

Kat - Fast 09-28-2002 06:46 AM

I wore contacts for a few months - couldn't get on with them - I had soft ones and they would pop out every now and again. Plus they don't mix well with alcohol.... I spent 1/2 an hour one night trying to get a lens out when I was drunk and just gave up. I woke up in the morning with my eye hurting like hell, so I rushed to the bathroom to get the lens out again - to remember I hadn't put my lenses in and I'd been scratching my eyeball out for that 1/2 hour. Nope, not for me, never again.

Reminds me of the time I was looking for a hat for about 10 minutes and couldn't find it. I ask my girlfriend if she knew where it was, and she tells me its on my
head. I was drunk though.

To clarify the getting stuck behind the eye. It's possible that it dries up and stays stuck under your upper lid & not on the iris. All it takes is eye drops or your natural tears to let it move back down. There are also cases of people having it stuck on the iris itself, again, because they slept with their lenses on. The truth of the matter is, the daily disposable lenses are the best way to go 1) if it comes in your prescription
2) if you can afford it

Kat, if your contacts would pop out (while you were sober) that's because the right fit wasn't found for you, they were either too loose or too tight for your eye.

L0stMind 09-28-2002 10:19 AM

orthokeratology... sounds cool. Anyone heard of this? It's like a retainer for your eye that you wear at night and during the day you wont need glasses or contacts... seems cool.

As for whether or not to wear contacts... well - I am going to pick up my prescription right now. Glasses are fine, but contacts are the best if you active.

Ciao

Nope - they only popped out when I was drinking (cos they're a pain like that - how you meant to find a little piece of see-through plastic when you are drunk and it's dark?!?!!?!??)

Beastiepoo 09-28-2002 12:05 PM

I wore them for a little while a few years back and REALLY liked the ease and convenience. At the time I was dancing in classes and in the university dance company. After taking classes all my life in a slight blurry haze (taking off my glasses so they wouldn't slide down my nose or get flung across the room) it was FABULOUS to take a class and see what I was doing! I don't wear them now because I got out of the habit and would need them represcribing. I'm seriously thinking of going back to them after the baby is born and has settled into a routine.

Honeyslut 09-28-2002 03:56 PM

You can also get disposable contacts that you were for two /three weeks and throw out ! !

cyberpunk 09-28-2002 04:31 PM

Stop being a fuckin pussy jsut get them! :)

Meloman 09-28-2002 04:39 PM

I've been wearing contacts since I was like 15. They are easy to use once u get the hang of it. I totally recommend them.

REMbraNT 09-28-2002 04:55 PM

I was struggling for 10 minutes to put contacts on for the first time:helpme

now it is a 10 seconds work:thumbsup

kenny 09-28-2002 04:59 PM

I wear contacts, colored ones blue, aqua blue, green, aqua green, brown, gold, purple, red, grey, and more. I like them. It only sucks if I leave them in for more then 24 hours

Skip right past contacts and into LASIK. No cleaning, no losing, no popping out, nothing getting stuck underneath, no drying out in the wind, etc.

Contacts are way better than glasses, but the surgery leaves you hassle-free. Unless there is a horrible accident and your vision is permanently destroyed. That is very rare, though.

L0stMind 09-28-2002 10:30 PM

LASIK is interesting but for me, only as a last resort.

I am seriously considering this orthokeratology thing. may not be as clean cut as lasik, ubt at least if my eyes get worse I can change my ortho k prescription

DanielD 09-28-2002 10:56 PM

Contact lenses irritate initially but you get used to it afterwards when you start using it regularly. Operating the eyes scare me.

mastamindz 09-28-2002 11:34 PM

I went to check out the price for contacts. Its going to cost me around $250 for a 6 months supply.
Shit!

DanielD 09-29-2002 12:00 AM

That sounds a bit too much...!

booker 09-29-2002 12:03 AM

I want contacts that auto-shade like those pimp sunglasses.
