Thanks

thanks bob and theHeron,

hey Emichele, i rarely post in the threads that are about CMS , cause i find it awkward when people post about their own product, but yeah i just wanted to say that you should hit me up on icq, or send me an email so i can tell you more about our product,

we've done a lot of changes in the past couple of months, added a bunch of features and working on making the templates much more flexible with global tags and extra goodies, so hope to hear from you soon so i can give you a demo and show you around the product

We use MAS. It's very powerful but the documentation/support isn't the best. Once you learn it thoroughly, it's a great tool.

I use XTract. The developer disappeared on a 3 month vacation a while back, but he's around now and working on a new version. Not sure what his plans are for selling it, but once I got the hang of using it...it rocks.

For that price range you are looking at Sitedepth or Awiz. Maybe Joomla. Here are couple others.

- Carma
- MAS
- Custom

You need to outline what you want the CMS to be able to do before shopping, particularly the content scheduling and rotation. Also note some of the cheaper CMS scripts have a problem with large sites and can only handle so many members reaching the database. In most cases that's not really an issue though. We use Carma and like it. Custom is a good way if you know EXACTLY what you want. Most of the out of the box solutions are good especially if you are unsure of what you want/need.

Use the GFY search above for more, this topic has plenty of content to search on.

Here are some open-source CMS that are popular...

http://wordpress.org/
http://www.joomla.org/
http://drupal.org/

Wordpress, while obviously intended for blogging, with some tweaking can actually look more like a regular website.

Joomla is a widely popular free CMS, but seems klunky and unpolished in my view, but definitely worth checking out.

Drupal overall shows the most promise for many CMS needs ... nice interface, customizable, and pretty stable.

I am a SD customer for about a year. What are the updates? Your website still shows a version older than mine, have I missed something?

To answer the original question, no matter which CMS you choose, it's going to take a lot of customization. Be sure you have someone with programming knowledge to set you up.
