the moon affects our body every day.....a full moon has to do with the suns reflection on the moon

so saying a full moon (full reflection) changes our behavior is pretty dumb

now when the moon is closer, or further away, then logic says yes, it could change behavior possibly

of course a full moon could have a mental affect on humans, but it would not be the moon itself causing the issue

Both my children behave worse during the week before the full moon. I used to think I was just overly sensitive at that time but I started marking it down on the calender. No matter what month we are in, the week before full moon approaches and they totally forget all the rule's we have ever taught them.

I have marked this down in a journal and proven it to our own primary care dr as well as the teachers at school. Take it with a grain of salt if you choose, but its a fact and I live it every month. The moon makes people wacky.

What does your charting show in regards to a new moon tonya?

Also you say each month a week before. The moon is on a standard cycle almost. So alas it could never be anything else right?

They do fine in regards to bad behavior all month long. No matter where in the month the full moon falls they really have major issues that week before. Our dr was very intrigued by what I had charted and had not ever had anyone bring it to his attention before. I don't know what else it could be aside from the moon its self. The day after the full moon has crested their attitudes change and they are back to normal 6 and 8 yr old boys.

"I hold a doctorate in metaphysics, and deal with special needs kids on an everyday basis. One of our students, a 14-year-old boy, displays unusal behavior when there is a full moon. It has been a full moon the past two nights, and during the days his teachers have seen a behavior change in him. He has become more violent when there is a full moon, and normally he displays a calmer demure. He is the only one of the special needs students who show drastic behavior changes. Even though it is unscientific proof, I think the Moon has a lot to do with different people’s behaviors. The Moon doesn’t affect everyone the same, but it does to some. The history of the Moon’s effects on behavior is more than folklore. I believe more research needs to be done in this field. It’s no longer an astrologers’ domain."

That's your counterpoint ASM? Because they're British?

C'mon now...I thought I was debating with a worthy opponent here

The british part was a joke, I said 1984 - disproven since then by others redoing that study.

From the Harvard Business Review (take this with a grain of salt also - there may be some British heritage in the editor's background).

"We find strong lunar cycle effects in stock returns. Specifically, returns in the 15 days around new moon dates are about double the returns in the 15 days around full moon dates. This pattern of returns is pervasive; we find it for all major U.S. stock indexes over the last 100 years and for nearly all major stock indexes of 24 other countries over the last 30 years. In contrast, we find no reliable or economically important evidence of lunar cycle effects in return volatility and volume of trading. Taken as a whole, this evidence is consistent with popular beliefs that lunar cycles affect human behavior."

15 days around?
Oh come on now. There are sometimes 2 full moons in a month as it is. You are always 15 days around a damn full moon in a 30-31 day month.

We can both go 'round in circles on this one quoting pro/con sources all day, none of which would do much to change my personal perception of what I experience on the job from day to day.

Perhaps, like Tonya - I'll start keeping notes and stats on confrontation cycles during the course of a shift. Might be an interesting task.

Granted, I'm 2% British (I think its manifested mainly in my left foot) and 1984 was my favorite year....so results may be slightly and subjectively skewed.

You can at least take a joke

I am a chunk british myself. Though if you keep acurate records every day for say a few months that include all moon phases and of course hopefully at least a blue moon. I would be interested in seeing it. I am still of course open a tiny bit and I do want to believe but alas I am super skeptic.

There's a small skeptic in me...likewise I'm open to a conclusion one way or the other.

I'll let ya' know if I manage to persevere on the notes and any conclusion either way.

As a matter of fact, both these children have special needs My 8yr old is in a self contained class and imho his brother needs to be in one also. I'm glad that someone else here has seen such patterns in children who have issues. Its very unscientific but I've tracked it for 6 yrs now. Ordinarily they are normal 6 and 8 yr old boys, but during that week as the full moon crests they lose all sense of right and wrong.
