Does anyone here have a Hummer H1?

I'm very displeased with my latest Audi, hence, I've decided to trade it in. I'm considering a pre-owned H1 convertible (diesel), and would like to gather some owner experiences before making the plunge. My gripe with my Audi is that it has been a maintenance nightmare.

Weird dude I had one of the first TT's a few years ago and it was a dream.

Aside from the pussy engine and the Jetta-like handling.

Tell me about it, this is my fourth. Since I'm a big bitch (6'6"), I opted for the A8 this time. I love the ride and handling for such a large car, but I've blown 2 what they refer to as "quatto seals", and a valve cover gasket. You know how embarassing it is to drive down the road in a 60k car that is smoking? Now the fucking transmission clunks (I hope it is something as simple as a universal joint of some description) and I get an intermittent "L1" error along with some check engine shit on occasion.

On the other hand, my A6 quatto only had scheduled maintenance performed until I turned it in at 120k miles. The same can be said for my 100 quattro.

I'm sure the AM General is no cream puff when it comes to maintenance, but I want to avoid something that will develop into a complete hassle.

We've got a 98 H1 you can buy ;)

Nothing wrong with it, we just don't need so many cars.

There is a lot of space inside, the only gripe I really have with it is the front seats are about two miles apart --

I have a 98 wagon loaded to the hilt.
I have beat the living shit out of it taking it everywhere, and all I do is change the oil normally. I couldnt ask for a more reliable vehicle. I also like the fact that I would survive driving over a land mine or taking a directy artillery hit...but that doesnt seem to be a problem around here
Try doing this with an audi...

Sweet, thanks for the input. I intend to be a bit gentler with mine, so I assume it should serve me well.

We have been looking for a Hummer for a couple of months.

It can be difficult to find the right one in Australia.

your friend cut the frame of the car to stick a box with 3 subs in the rear deck , cause he wanted it to sound like a hatchback , and has rewired the car himself 3-4 times??? or am i thinking of someone else ?

I have an a4 , I'm convinced audis are nice cars. Bimmers and Benzes are better, but much more expensive.

The H1 is a really nice truck compared to the toy hummer H2, you wont be crossing any rivers in that thing.

well i don't have any experience with the commercial hummers
but the military ones do kick ass but they breakdown to easy,
maybe cuz of the diesel engine or because i drove the fuck out of it

there very hard to drive because its so wide and bitch to park in parking lots, i know i tore plenty of side view mirrors in my time,,

since your a big man i suggest you go with the new Navigators,
they got air condition bucket seats,, need i say more?

How much you want for that hummer?

I'm lookin' for a new (used) car/hog-of-the-road.
