What Currency will take over when the USD tanks?

The European Union has stated previously that they will not print enough currency for the rest of the world to circulate so they are out.

Who will take over and give 3rd world countries a currency they can count on when they can no longer count of the United States?

Smart move on the EBC's part. The USD will be back. Maybe after a couple of years after the election and a renewed drive to tame the deficit. However, the 800 pound gorrilla in the living room is what to do with the HUUUUGE costs of entitlement programs like Social Security and Medicare.

It either be the British Pound (Brits have been priding themselves on their strong currency) or the Yen. Chinese Yuan is still too volatile to be a contender.

You ever see that guy on The Daily Show who actually believed Pez *the candy* would be a currency in the future...that guy was a bit tetched in the head.

Don't understand the logic/background of the EU stance - tho seems prudent.

Non-industrialized countries generally don't need the dollar particularly. Some have (and still do) tag their own currency to the dollar and will probably change that scenario - especially if the problem deepens. A number of other countries who did tag to the dollar have removed that tie and let their own currency float - and can think of a few countries where their currency has been floating upwards while the dollar is lowering. Ironic.

Currency isn't the only problem in America. All together there is just too much corruption for America to survive. I feel like we are in Rome just before the fall.

Look at the bill that passed to no longer allow Medicare/Medicaid to bid on lower drug prices. What kind of bullshit was that? Senators being paid off in the millions and what is our AG doing about it? Nothing...

Amazing!

The biggest issue is that too many things are transacted in US dollars. Much of the issue of rising oil prices has as much to do with the US dollar going into the shitter as anything else. Oil futures are actually a weird sort of hedge against further currency drops at this point.

If there is ever a change, it would likely be to something like the Euro.

Eliminate ridiculous military spending. Invest in homeland security at borders and ports. It would cost a fraction of the cost, and be more effective then trying to police the globe against the boogyman.

Also stop the 'ear marks' and pork projects that get tacked on all kinds of bills.

Reform the IRS/Tax situation.

Socialize medicine for those who do not have it, and allow for those who want premium care pay for it. Do this through a 50/50 or tax credit system for businesses.

Decriminalize pot, and stop throwing drug users in prison at cost to the tax payer of $40,000 a year. The same for nonviolent offenders who are little more than a nuisance.

Stop wasting money on bullshit programs like star wars, and missle systems. Among countless other bullshit.

There's a start.

The possibility of a change from "petro-dollars" to another currency base is more than serious - and suspect that's why there is an element of moderation among OPEC member counties - and, least at the moment they officially claim that is not a subject for discussion. The effect on the US economy would be a disaster within a year (some equate it to being equivalent to the status of Agentina at the time of it's worst economic scenario) and it sure causes major financial ripples internationally.

At the same time, (can't remember which countries) - a few have actually constructed their "oil exchange" buildings (at substantial cost) - and these are currently sitting empty. So, kinda makes you wonder what the "real thinking" of OPEC really is.... If the dollar keeps sliding, only a gutty guess, but can see that could become more of a possibility.

The US dollar will be the global standard in the near future; however, unless we drastically change our spending it will be replaced by the English pound.

Here at Galaxy Media we KNOW that the human survivors will be using Standard Intergalactic Credits for purchases in this universe. Survivors trying to buy goods from other universes will have to use Standard Universe Credits.

Of course, there will be not many survivors (100 or 200 is a very optimistic number), so you should not have to worry much about that unless you survive.
