Biz Thread: Anyone using FileRights (to remove files from torrents sites)?

The folks that started TorrentSpy are developing a tool, called FileRights, that will help copyright owners keep their works off of torrent sites.

Has anyone used it yet? If so, what kind of results are you seeing?

I haven't see it, but if it is like the one youtube is putting in, it won't do much (in a test, the you tube one caught 18 files total).

If the file is anyway encoded (IE, take the ISO, zip it, encode it with a key, and put a little text file with it with the key) the software won't find it, unless they are way more talented then they let on.

Nothing will change in the torrent world until they accept the idea of publishing file that ONLY come with express permission of the owners.

I have been doing a ton of research lately on the file sharing forums for a project I have been working on, and I have been seriously considering starting a service that locates program owner's content on these sites and sends the DMCA notices to Rapidshare, Depositfiles, etc. to have them remove it. Contrary to popular belief the file sharing sites are good about removing copyrighted content when contacted, but many programs don't ever bother with it. I honestly wonder if there would be a market for this...

I've wondered this as well, and I know I could easily put together and train people to do it from my existing contacts in just a few days. I just don't have any money to put into it.

I don't think you would have to put any money into it. I honestly believe it could start as a small, maybe 2 person (hint, hint) operation at first, and then expand from there. My ICQ is 432-524-419. It's past 2 AM here, and I'm getting ready to crash, but hit me up tomorrow and let's talk...

I'll hit you but, but what I should have said was "but I don't have any money or TIME to put into it. I could manage some training for a while and a bit of support throughout the day, but I am booked solid with writing and it's sure money. I'm not in a position at the moment to abandon that for a new idea that's just "maybe" money. Anyway, we can work something out I think, I know for sure I have people I can have working on it within a few days tops.
