Old style would be a Gobo:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gobo_(lighting) Newer style is to use computer control LCD style gobos... amoungst other ways of doing it. |

You may get what you need from B&H in NY or Sammies in LA
They use these steel cut out stencils on high powered light source like a QH projector. I've seen simple versions at The Party Store and online, used to project Seasonal greetings onto garage doors ( Im sure they are not as powerful as the example you posted )
