WARNING: This is an intellectual discussion.
Now, I'm not talking about anyone on the board in particular, nor is this a response to any specific thread. I'm just saying I've had this argument with people a million times. My opinion is this: We are different (in general). I'm not talking about societal differences caused by poverty or social events, I'm talking genetics...Example: -White people have no rhythm -Blacks are more athletic -Asians have a tendency to be smarter -I'm sure you can think of a million of them. These are not 100% on the money, they are generalizations, more than 50% correct or at least appear that way. Non-damaging stereotypes. Is it so wrong to laugh at our differences, or are we supposed to pretend that there are no physical or social differences between us whatsoever? To me (I could be wrong) racism is associated with hate and a feeling of superiority. Acknowledging differences shows neither? Am I right? Thoughts? . . . |

According to the politically correct crowd....yes
And what's worse is that if black people make fun of white people (i.e. Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle) it's considered hilarious....but if I were to tell watermelon or fried chicken jokes I'd get the shit kicked out of me. Go figure

Where do I use the word "judge"? or "facts"? I clearly use "opinion" and "generalizations". What are you talking about? ![]() |

That's a slippery slope..
I remember watching the winter olympics with my ex's grandmother. She saw a black hockey player and said "I thought they couldn't skate because their ankles are too big. The bones aren't right." She honestly believed it, she wasn't trying to be derogatory. So allowing the stereotypes to continue is damaging enough, I think.
