Andrew Arthur, Vice President of MRI?s Market Solutions division and author of the report, attributes this shift to two reasons: ?a steepening decline since 2000 in the percentage of households with any landline, accompanied by a rapid rise in the number of households with at least one cell phone."

The trend is bolstered by younger people. Of all 18-24 year olds living in single-person households, 57.1% are cell phone-only. This makes them more than four times more likely to be cell phone-only than the average adult.

I recently got my kids all pre-paid cell phones and got rid of the landline and am saving money and frustration now that I no longer have to deal with Embarq...

Pre-paid for the kids is the best thing I've done in awhile, makes then think about their phone use and makes them responsible for it, also when they want extra time, tones, games or whatever they have to earn extra cash so they can get it...

The landline is still handy to keep, although my bills have dropped with it because we use the cell phone to make most calls now.

Will still have landline for a while yet anyway...

I have a landline but no phone plugged into it for over a year now.. Only have it since its what my DSL runs off...

it's also a great discipline tool
if they don't do their homework or if they backtalk or misbehave, they don't get their minutes....that, for them, is worse punishment and more effective than any spanking I could give.
