So who owns pictures on Flickr?
http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/...kr.lawsuit.cnn
Sorry, cnn video, too bad, so sad. http://www.flickr.com/groups/central...7600541608353/ Basically, 16 year old asian-american girl gets her picture taken by a friend. The friend post it to flickr, which effectively puts the image into the public domain. Virgin in australia uses part of the image in an ad campaign. Now (you guessed it) the parents are suing. What do you think? |

Heh, why didn't they just hire a model for this? A big company grabbing a public domain photo for a ad like that.. crazy.

I don't know the law in regards to this but that would suck to see yourself being used to advertise products which make profit. And if it's all legit why haven't other companies done this or been in the spotlight for doing this? And the words "virgin to virgin" are kind of funny.
In the end, it's some publicity for Virgin.

this is exactly why I dont use any of the "free" photo hosting services out there - too much room for this kind of thing to happen - too bad so sad I guess - it's good that people are being made aware of it but they will still use these services because of the networking and easy to use functionality

Not charging Virgin sets a very dangerous precedent, IMO. |

This is exactly why I don't post my photos for public viewing anywhere.
