I don't think Fred with get the nomination. First off I don't know why some people think is he so great. He is a cookie cutter republican. He has too many skeletons in the closet and when the mud really start to get slung he will get hit with too much of it. This guy was having trouble just putting a staff together before he even announced he was running.

My prediction is that it will be Hilary VS Rudy and in a very close election the next president is Rudy.

Rudy also has way to many skeletons and will scare the fuck out of the too dumb to know better republican base in the heartland. Being a cross dressing many times divorced New Yorkian... That will not play in the heartland at all.

Almost reminds me of those Pace salsa commercials.

There is a long way to go still before the election but here is my take as it sits right now.There are no untouchable candidates. They all have problems. Still I think Hilary will continue to dominate. As she and Bill get into the full swing she will run away from the pack. Rudy will brush off the lesser candidates fast and will shake free of Mitt and McCain. I think he might offer the vice presidents job to Thompson, but he isn't very young so he might not accept because he won't want to have to wait potentially 8 years to be president.

Eventually it comes down to Rudy Vs Hilary. There will be no major change in the countries political landscape this year. We will again play red state blue state so it will come down to about 10-12 battleground states. Hilary will be a force. She has Bill who was a popular president when he left office and that guy is probably the greatest campaigner in modern politics. While Rudy has problems some conservatives won't like (he is pro-choice, from NY, for gun control, cheated on his wife etc) The choice for them will be obvious. The hard christian right which controls much of the party doesn't like Rudy that much, but faced with the idea of Clinton they will rally behind him. Also Rudy is the only republican that has a shot at winning New York. If he pulls that off the election is over. Nobody west of the Mississippi needs to bother voting because it is done. (This is actually one of the reasons I think the electoral college needs to be done away with). Even if he doesn't win New York (and he probably won't) he will make Hilary fight for it. Every minute and dollar she spends defending NY which is typically a democrat stronghold is a minute and dollar she is not spending on a battleground state. In the end Rudy is enough of a social moderate that he will be able to bring in a good number of independents and that coupled with the support of the religious right will be enough to get him the win. I also agree with many experts that say that this presidential election will be less about social issues and morality and more about Iraq and the economy. When it comes down to picking a leader between these two I think most people will remember back to Rudy on 9/11 in the dirt leading his city.

As I said there is a lot of time left and a lot of things could happen, but that is how I see it now.
