But I am listening to Guns n Roses since 1991 and of course I know the "Paradise City" video very well, how many people were there on that night? it really looks like 150 000 or something on the video.. incredible.

Well the meadowlands was packed and it was sick. During deep purple's "smoke on the water" they lit the stands on fire and like four rows were burning. then everyone jumped down from the seats to the floor and security couldn't catch them all. There were snapple stands toward the rear of the floor selling bottles of snapple for $3 a peice and the crowd completely mowed over them, so there were piles of snapple with everyone just taking it. the snapple stands were reduced to rubble. I believe The meadowlands arena banned open floor seating for concerts after that.

It was insane. There were ambulances lined up outside with all the people who had broken bones and heat stroke on stretchers and shit. And my buddy and his girlfriend got so wasted before the show that they lost their tickets and had to sit on the car for seven hours and wait for us, lol.

As you can see In that photo, I made my way to the front, and thought I was going to die. the crowd would lift you right off your feet. I don't know how I made it out alive, lol.

Quite an experience...

Can't imagine that, I would LOVE to be there though.. Anyway if you would compare I guess it was not a pure teen-hysteria thing, I guess music still made sense those days, and I still enjoy listening to them, although partly through the eyes of my upbringing.

A local band just starting out called XTC back in 76/77.
They were managed by a local night club owner and used to play in his club until they got too big.

Probably the first rock concert I went to - (I had been to some classical concerts as a child) - was either the Amboy Dukes or Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley - cant remember the timeline in the 60s that well :)
many concerts towards the end of the 60s that were free outdoor concerts at my college(American Univ) included Grateful Dead, Procul Harem, Richie Havens, Hendrix, James Taylor, Pete Seeger (he's the only one I remember from the Moratorium concert in DC), Allman Bros and many others
In Hawaii I had the opportunity to be working for the only music store in Honolulu and we provided equipment for the Crater Concerts in Diamondhead - I remember being backstage with Fleetwood Mac, Flo and Eddie, Robin Trower, Tower of Power and many more

I reckon you would like it not to be true because like most you feel so insecure and shallow.... I haven't even begun to engage much in my adult life because I did nothing but work as a child because thats all I was taught. Thats cool though, I can admit that I too am as lost in this world of chaos as you, and would never see myself as "better" than you, every single person on this earth was presented with free will, a very powerful and time consuming ability, meaning we should all be so busy on our own paddock of shit, that whatever anyone else is up to only effects me when it limits my ability to continue.
Stand up and do the nutbush - tina turner's proof to the world that no matter how limiting a sick individual can be, nothing will stand in the way of the precious gift of life once engaged... Get the message???

I think it was Aerosmith and AC/DC (before they were big)

SilentKnight 09-20-2007 09:26 PM

First medium-sized concert I saw was Max Webster at a local highschool.

First stadium concert was Genesis at Maple Leaf Gardens (Abacab tour).

Best concert by far was Van Halen in 1984 at Maple Leaf Gardens.

tony286 09-20-2007 09:28 PM

Twisted Sister at the Gemini a small club,it was right before they were signed.

TheJimmy 09-20-2007 09:28 PM

George Harrison, Ravi Shankar, Billy Preston...sometime in the 70s with my old man at the LA Colloseum...it was kick ass and I was a little heathen that dug it...

They actually brought some of the members from the Turtles with them - it was one heck of a show as Canned Heat jammed with them as well - and since it was a two day show - the next morning Montrose had to do his wake up guitar solo ala Hendrix's star spangled banner

TeenCat 09-21-2007 03:47 AM

Funny I was at the same show I think...I saw Judas priest a bunch of times. I don't remember great white's performance, my ex-wife loved them though...they were one of those bands I just couldn't get into. like Faster Pussycat!

My first show was Ace frehley and Alice Cooper but Faster Pussycat opened...I didn't bother showing up for them, I was told they were boo'ed off stage.:(

I've had some weird show experiences...this one was a crazy experience, I was 17, it was my first time that far away from home alone (like 6-7 hours) we decided to take a hotel room up in troy NY where the show was and drive home in the morning.

So, Three of us crashed in this little shitty motel, and in the morning we were woke up by sirens and the smell of fire...The building was on fire! burned down to the ground except the row we were in, and the stupid fuckiers thought nobody was in those rooms so they were shocked when we came running out...

Apparently they were used to filling single rooms for 3 hours (yes it was that quality of a motel) so the double rooms were usually not occupied. Pretty fucked up!:firehair

Tom_PM 09-21-2007 09:15 AM

ZZTop, Rush, Blue Oyster Cult, AC/DC, Van Halen (first tour, opening act. Eddie had one limo with 2 girls, the rest of em had another haha), Journey, Nazareth and countless others.. so many good concerts from back in the day when tickets were $15 and cops just laughed at all the stoners rather than arresting them.
Good times.

None other than Huey Lewis and the News! With my Mom nonetheless. I actually remember that concert. He arrived in a helicopter and rocked it! LOL.

Although my first concert without my Mother was the Beastie Boys. Henry Rollins opened and the BB were awesome. I went to that concert with my first real girlfriend (she turned out to be a complete weirdo). Ahh the memories.

The first concert I ever went to was Nina Hagen at the Greek Theater. I think it was in 1985. The show completely changed my mind about opera. My grandmother had always forced it on me, and I hated it. After watching Nina Hagen sing a song from Carmen, I realized I didn't hate opera; I just hated my grandmother's singing.

I was at the Diamonhead Crater concert when I saw them - working backstage - in Honolulu - it was the same concert that had Fleetwood Mac and quite a few others over the two days - best part - for free :thumbsup

They opened with Kickstart My Heart('89) introduced by a laser show. AMAZING
