YES - Tales from Topographic Oceans. Hollywood Bowl.

I was too young to appreciate the music. Now I love that album.

The best band I was ever in played lots of Three Dog Night, Steppenwolf and Doors covers, since our best musician and lead singer, had one of those big ass Hammond organs...

Steppenwolf: Born To Be Wild

Doors: Light My Fire

I like a lot of today's music, but considering how fucked up the war in Iraq is, global warming, etc, it's somewhat disconcerting that more young artists and bands aren't writing music that speaks for their generation.

That goes for the rap artists too - who do they think is dying for America in Baghdad while they are rapping about keeping it real in Compton or Liberty City?

If you have not seen the Colbert Report tonight, catch the rerun. He explains it pretty well: Solitarity.

My first *somehow important* - Scorpions
Pretty nice.

Great point, after the late 70's - mid 80's we lost a lot of that and music spun into never never land. Now it's about 40's bitches and big screen TV's as if the world is a perfect place.:2 cents:

Ozzy Ozbourne and Night Ranger....1980 Atlantic City

First "concert" was really a private show for some IBM employees and their families by Roy Clarke, and a bunch of really amazing country stars.

First "real" concert though was The Doobie Brothers when I was 12. Right up at the barricade wall in front. Was really insane man, lol. There was a million pounds of pot smoke in the air and joints and pipes were being passed everywhere. Every bit the proper introduction to rock n roll concerts :)

MrKinkade 09-20-2007 07:12 AM

Mine was Motley Crue Whitesnake, 1987
then Poison Tesla 1988
then metallica the cult in 1990 I believe

2nd show I went to, I was at the show where they shot the video for Gun N Roses, paradise city. I was right up there in front and about 2 minutes in you can see me plain as day for like a second. You can't really see it here, but on the big screen it's plain as day. I had my 80's long hair and shit...pretty funny.

Aerosmith when I was 12 or 13.

thinman 09-20-2007 10:22 AM

Honestly, The Osmond Brothers -- WAAAAY back in the 20th century. I was probably 12. Have not seen them since. Hmmmm.

Most recently, my brother took me backstage at Elvis Costello. Better!

Rand 09-20-2007 10:22 AM

It was Feb 19th, 1977. Freedom Hall in Johnson City, Tennessee.

I was 6 years old.

The first concert I ever went to was Elvis Presley.

He was fat then, and he died 5 months later.

But it was such a spectacle that I totally remember that night. I was glad I got to see him.

This is a photo from that night.

lol I saw a show from that tour :) I had bought the debut Queensryche album they released on private label before they got signed. KISS was out of their make up (Lick it Up), and I had a girl on my shoulders who kept flashing Paul Stanley because she wanted to fuck him! LMAO God she was nuts. Fun though

royaljelly2 09-20-2007 10:56 AM

Nelly Furtado and she rocked!!!

Saw Kiss during that tour also. Then again when they put the make up back on and Ace came back. Also Saw Ace at CeeBeeJeeBees...Big ace fan myself. The venue was so small some of my arm hair was burned when his guitar starts shooting flames. good times.

LauraLee 09-20-2007 12:36 PM

Oh snap, mine was Wham, with the Pointer Sisters and K.C. and the Sunshine Band opening up. YIKES.

Peaches 09-20-2007 12:37 PM

The FIRST one I went to was with my parents - John Denver ;) Can't even remember where we were living then.

My first "date" concert was Boston in Jacksonville in....75? 76?

Cool choice! I miss Alice in my collection, besides that from the "must see" I still do miss Van Halen and Mötorhead.

My first band, let me think I guess it was Jethro Tull way back in 1994, I would say that was the first big one, after that I saw B.B. King and John Mayall - old skool... I guess I was a lot into blues back then..

Steppenwold, a band that is known for the "Born To Be Wild" tune but had many great songs "The Monster" "Magic Carpet Ride" "Power Play""Don't step on the grass, Sam". I actually used to listen to their live album from 71 a lot as a kid.

oh yes I had my long hair from 12 to 17 actually, a kid rocker, weighing about 100 pounds way back then I had to look very creepy.

But I am listening to Guns n Roses since 1991 and of course I know the "Paradise City" video very well, how many people were there on that night? it really looks like 150 000 or something on the video.. incredible.

my own - I was by far as good as it got playing the fiddell. Eventhough most of the recitals, concerts, and theatre productions were not popular, they came to see me play an instrument i hated and do it gracefully. I just wanted my mum to stop schitzing out, so acheiving seemed to reduce the hell of a childhood she would have dished me, had i failed. I have never played it again, nor have i been home.
