host suggestions -after major problems with ubiquityhosting

hey guys. I need host suggestions. we got a specialist rack setup on

http://www.ubiquityhosting.com/about/why-ubiquity

4 Xeon servers with a load ballancer and tested it with a small amount of traffic roughly 150,000 page views per day and they couldn't handle it, with the site being down or running at a snails pace at least 60% of the time, most days not even serving 40,000 page views.

Beware of Ubiquity as they are a terrible company, after 3 months of complaining they finally said "we should move you to Xeons" which is strangely what we'd paid for in the first place. We'd had 1 Xeon Server on Ev1 (now theplanet) that handled that small site very well, but Ev1 went down hill when it became theplanet, unless you were a big client like imagebeaver etc. they didn't seem to care about you.

It's time to move, this is what I am looking for at present: suggestions for a decent host, the site does roughly 500,000 page views per day and about 3.5TB/month in bandwidth. with 180 data base calls per second.

hope someone can help.

regards
garv

Bump for you. With that kind of setup go with one of the hosts mentioned on here regularly like Phatservers, Split Infinity etc...

Server Provider all the way my friend... I've tried a few of the big names on this board and only Server Provider has met all my needs. I really can't complain about anything from them

Hi Garv,

That hardware configuration and traffic load could be easily handled and would actually be a duplication of numerous customers already in play.

Hit me up about Caro.Net and we can setup you up with the peace of mind you have been looking for.

Hi Garv,

I was just curious in your current configuration if your database is centralized and what kind of load-balancing is currently employed?

Hi Garv,

I'm hosting out of The Netherlands with a company called Munt Internet - have been with them since 2003 and can't fault the service they provide. I'm set up on a cluster as are a few people you'll recognize like Terry, Richard (RichardsRealm) and Ray (Watcherweb).

You know how to get in touch with me if you need to know any thing.

Cheers

thanks everyone. we've got a host for now, as a test. but this is very helpful. I've been hosting across many different hosts since 96 and at present have tried many and still have a few sites with some of the ones mentioned

Zagi, I love RCN (reality check networks) and have a site hosted with you guys at present, but it's costs for excess bandwidth scared me off for this particular site.

Argoz about webair. I'd never touch them again, tried them in 2002, only once since have i come across a more incompetent group (ubiquityhosting), I've heard Webair are a lot better now. but after they forced me to pay 9 months of a 12 month contract, they stopped charging when i published all the emails they'd sent of all the problems on a webmaster board. I only got 1 month of uptime in those 9 months, was not good. they gave me different excuses on almost a daily basis "your ram fried, you have to buy more" "your harddrive failed and the sites were down for a week, we're sorry" etc.

once again thanks. I've bookmarked this page as I know i will need more hosts in the near future.

garv
