Bingo. This is a pretty common scam and you guys wouldn't have had to pay anything, or alternatively you could have done what I would have done and told him you only had $20.00 :upsidedow

Why do you even say stuff like this? You don't look like a tough guy :2 cents:

The real beauty about Mexico is that they are still living with the technology and ethics of American cops from back in the 60's...

That means he never called you in to his dispatcher... It also means you could have shot his ass dead and just kept going and no one would have to know...

Yeah.... I love Mexico!

Well, he was parked with a motorcycle cop when we passed them. Pretty sure he would have noticed something was wrong.

it was 11:11 when i thought about responding to this so i decided it was worthy. i think you'll never know for sure if you were being "had" or not and if it got you your flight and out of dealing with a big waste of time (even had you gotten out of a ticket fee/charge) but that it was worth the gamble to offer him the cash to catch your flight. you were presented with that choice or the choice of believing the guy and missing the flight to possibly find out that you could have called his bluff. i agree with the above poster, probably the best $110 you spent regardless. :2 cents:

what ever, First of all it was a bullshit charge to begin with. Second of all, it does NOT pay to argue with a guy with a badge. Specially in a foreign country:2 cents:

Our run for the border was uneventful ... however, had we not been carrying cash .. we'd still be in Mexico. No CC transactions at the gas station in Mexico, nor at any US store 20 miles near the border.

Maybe cause it was Sunday, but all the CC/debit machines had signs over them .. Out Of Order. I did keep my Baja Season's wrist band on, till I was on US soil.

First of all we were maybe about 6 miles over limit, so it was all a bullshit shakedown.

So I interject, telling the cop we are in a hurry to get to the airport, can we just pay him and he can submit it. I also say, hey we been here for a few days, we dont have too much money left and have to buy gas as well.

In the end we bargained him down to $110 and he says OK, I'll do it, but cant give you a receipt.

I'm chuckling to my self, fucking bastard starting his day off right, making a buck ten, this is like 7 am in the morning.

He must be making a killing there. Followed us for a bit then fucked off, probably bragging to his corrupt amigos, about fucking a couple of gringos over:disgust

That's why you need to come into Canada not fucken Mexico when you go.

Poppy 09-24-2007 09:03 AM

Consider yourselves lucky. This just happened over Labor Day. Granted these guys surfers probably shouldn't have left when it was still dark out.

Surfer tells of assault, robbery by Baja bandits

Rochard 09-24-2007 09:48 AM

Baddog's car isn't fast enough to get a ticket. Well, I guess any car can do 65mph.

We hit the border at 4:30am and drove right up to the border itself. No cops, blew the car out, had a blast.

Busty 09-24-2007 11:02 AM

I was down there a few weeks ago for a wedding and they had hired drivers to take us down there. On the way back we get pulled over by the cops, and they are explaining to us what the driver did wrong and now they have to take his drivers licence and follow them to the police station to pay the fine. The four of us passengers are like we do not know this guy, he was hired to drive us and they need to deal with him not us. Next thing the driver starts crying, saying he will lose his job and they let us go. Classic shit for Mexico. The wedding was here http://www.casanatalie.com/, and was one of the sickest wedding I have ever been too.

Chumps like you ruin it for the rest of us who try to drive in Mexico.

Why are you so eager to hand over your money when you did nothing wrong?

Scam or no scam, the quicker you can get rid of the Mexican police, the better. That's not a lot of money to pay to make it all go away. My husband was in Mexican jail once, and he said the floor is covered in piss, shit, and vomit and there are trannies in there who will try to steal your shoes. The guards took his Motorhead jacket, and later on he saw one of them wearing it. I am down there a lot because my family lives there, and so far I've been lucky and the cops have never bothered me at all.

frostyimpressions 09-24-2007 01:48 PM

I NEVER take my car down to Mexico. You might as well kiss it goodbye if it's a nice one.

Purple Haze 09-24-2007 03:23 PM

I have a similar story, where five of us were coming back from Bob's Lobster lunches in Mexico. We were driving in a convertable, drunk - and we thought that car surfing was a good idea at the time, oddly enough thats not what they pulled us over for. One of us decided to take a leak on the highway leading back to the border and thats when the Mexican Police stopped us and demanded $350 before we could leave. And let me tell you, they may not be able to speak english but they sure do know enough to speak on the topic of American currency.

Anyway, to make a long story short, after two hours of detaining us on the side of the road we negotiated it down $35.

What was even more ironic is that when we were in the line to cross the border back to the good ol' USA, the vendors wouldn't stop bothering us with their trinkets-and since we only had some coins on us, we decided to throw them at the vendors out of an afternoon of frustration.

Comedy of Errors...I tell ya.
