Any ATLANTA Webmasters here???
Hey,
Have been contemplating a move to Atlanta eventhough I have never been there. From what i see on TV and magazines, it looks like a nice place to live. Good social scene for 20s and 30sometihings, cheap to live and city life. Any special areas to look for for rentals??? I only know of Buckhead. Any pros or cons that you can help a fellow GFYer???? |

Jace lives in ATL. ATL isn't that cheap. Compared to LA I guess it would be cheap. I live in Charlotte which is 3 hours East of ATL

Pros and Cons of the ATL...
Atlanta is a Ok Place to live... I think if you are self employed you be alot better off.. "Georgia is a Right to work State" meaning... "they can fire you anytime they want" No Unions...
But Quality of life is very good here.. alot of new development... |

lol thnx for the responses....
I see rentals in ATL for $800 for luxury urban lofts...has to be more economical to live if rents are so low.... would also be a nice change of scenery. sick of the LA, NY, Miami scene... |

The only thing I miss that I don't have here in the city is the beach. Aside from that I love this city.

moving from LA to ATL will be total culture shock, people are actually nice here because they are nice by nature, not because they want something from you...LOL

they have hundreds of lofts back there that they built for the olympics, but the issue is that 1 block away from them is crackhead central that is where we had our loft, and it wasn't uncommon to hear gunshots at least once a week |

but I also have a hard time believing a luxury loft will go for that price range in buckhead or midtown.....something is wrong with that buckhead and midtown are NOT places you want to live anyway, if you wanna do anything between the hours of 7-10am or 4-7pm you will have to leave an hour or so before you want to just to bear the traffic some great areas to live are Stone Mountain, Marietta, Tucker, Lilburn.....anything surrounding these areas ain't bad at all....just make sure and take a trip to Atlanta before picking something out there was a couple of webmasters that did their entire move online and ended up like a mile from the Mall Of Georgia, which technically isn't even considered Atlanta, and now any time someone asks about Atlanta they dog it, which isn't fair because they didn't even take a trip here to see their place before moving, they did it all online and don't even live in Metro Atlanta or near it. Atlanta is a fucking wonderful place, and as Omar said, the only thing missing is a kickass beach, other than that it has EVERYTHING |

You will get alot of bang for your buck, its not a oh my god city but the cost of living makes it very cool. I recommend fulton county thats where buckhead is. I live in Marietta which is cobb county and hate it I miss downtown.

it has some of the best architecture, the concerts are the EXACT same shows as LA, the club scene is AMAZING, the arts and dance scene is spectacular.....in fact, when we first moved here I said something that I still think sticks to this day "Atlanta is Los Angeles, but with nice people"...and I still stand by that...it may be smaller, but it has ALL the same shit LA does (except the beach), but on a slightly smaller scale, and people actually nice for the sake of being nice here i guess living in LA for 2 years really scarred me, haha...now, granted, it isn't NYC, but who the fuck would want that? haha |

btw, they did some cool shit at Piedmont Park last week....
even though I don't care for either band, Dave Matthews and Allman Brothers teamed up to put on a show in the middle of midtown...they had like 75,000+ people.....i thought that was a pretty big "oh my god" moment, haha |

Thinking about it, if I lived in mid town around 17th st or in the heart of buckhead. It would probably be much better to me. In NYC I lived in 150sq ft apartment, didnt drive and had amazing adventures every weekend. You would step out your door and a block away was a festival or some cool jazz band in a coffee shop or the met or the tv and radio museum or the planetarium. You would be walking down the street and look up it was the guy who played the mayor in ghostbusters. Or eating a hot dog and the guy next to you also having his lunch is David Letterman. I would walk down 15th st late at night and they would be filming.Lots of movies are shot in that area and I would stand there watch them shoot. Go for chinese at 5am in the morning or fried calamari at the fulton fish market. If I could afford it and my dad wasnt sick I would be back tomorrow.

see, to me, you can't compare ANYTHING to NYC....NYC is an anomaly...it is a freak of nature in itself
so, basically, it is like comparing the Arkansas club scene to Ibiza Spain....one is the best thing you could ever go to if you are into clubbing, the other is just a typical state with typical clubs so, comparing the city of Atlanta to the City of New York is just silly all around one is 300 square miles of steel and concrete made to be completely set apart from anything and everything, the other is a pretty big southern city that strives to maintain an artsy feel while still being considered a big city in the middle of the georgia hills ;) |

i understand that totally, I compare dj's constantly, even when they aren't the same style or genre, then I catch myself and realize that they can't be compared when they aren't even in the same league
