Why not stop buying the crap coming from there? It's basic supply and demand but people are too stupid/lazy to check the origin of their products...

basically, what I've been doing anyways since the problem with spinach a couple months ago is I've just stopped buying bagged produce and started buying it fresh and just rinsing the hell out of it I grew up on a farm where we raised about 99% of the produce we ate and we never had problems with getting sick...of course we had quality soil and fertilizer and and always washed it thoroughly...

In this case I would bet it does not say it is from China on it and it just says Dole and people think it is from the US. I watched a show the other day and we have agreements with other countries that basically agrees that they have the same food standards as us and thus they bypass a lot of inspections. That is what needs to be changed along with a some large letters on the food products stating the country of origin. If people saw COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: CHINA on the bag of lettuce they would probably be less apt to buy it.

I went to the farm a few times this summer and picked fresh veggies.
There is nothing better!

I am in the deep south, the humidity and heat is unbearable for them during parts of summer here.
we have days where it is 100 degrees with 80% humidity. it only takes a day or so for them to start the dying process, and stunts the growth. The plants are alive but not growing or producing fruit. its that hot. Its starting to cool off, but the heat is still unbearable for most plants. The South has some brutal summers. we will try again next season

The romaine, green leaf and butter lettuce hearts that went into the blend were grown in California, Colorado and Ohio, then processed at Dole's plant in Springfield, Ohio, on Sept. 6, according to Ordman.

One of the benefits of living in SoCal is a Farmer's Market in just about every neighborhood.
You're sure you're buying it from local farmers... always fresher, and nearly always cheaper than the supermarket.
