If it's a then it's a relatively harmless scam.

If it's B then if the owner of that database gets mail to one of his seeded email addys in that list then he will be able to track down where that list got sold. That means one of two things will happen, your reputation will be killed and you may get legal action... or you will get your knees broken if you ever make it to a convention.
