*NOTE* I know this is my first time posting, but i think you should hear what i have to say. This story is purely an opinion that is based on the information collected by very well respected people in the IP industry.

Verio is not having connectivity problems or circuit problems, the circuit was cut off by Verio for non payment of a balance in excess of 200K.

If you remember when they were with level3 and had 18+ hours of downtime while they pulled a 2am move from level3 to network plus's facility. This time no servers have to be moved since they are not in the providers facility that they have possibly fucked. However they have severe latency since they do not have the capacity to handle the bw they have lost by verio shutting them down.

While they are cutting you a "deal" on hosting, they aren't even paying their upstreams. Profiting on the current downfall of the IP market because they realize a tier1 will not shut you off for months after you sign with them even if you dont pay.

Likewhoa is currently scrambling for bandwidth to replace the link shut down by verio. They may be able to convince verio to turn them back on tomorrow, but, my prediction, based on information provided by reliable sources is that they will turn up Yipes or WCG if they can get approved for credit.

Watch as this unfolds over the next 24 hours, and see if these predictions come true. Call Level3 , ask them about Likewhoa, Call Verio, ask them about LIkewhoa. Verio's NYC pop is just fine.

I know a lot of hate posts will come after this, but i haven't made up an ounce of this information, it is all based on information from many sources within the industry. I'm sure they will make it through this since there are many providers out there that would love even the chance at getting paid on bandwidth that they'll push, but can you trust this wont happen again?

Adios

This information is absolutely absurd. We will not go into details until the problem is rectified. All connectivity is going to be restored to normal before morning. We are working actively to resolve all issues. All LikeWhoa customers will be able to check for information regarding the current situation via logging into their statistics area. All other interested parties are welcome to contact the corporate offices at 718.421.7835 during normal business hours.

There is not a single individual involved on behalf of the hosting team that has not participated actively thus far. We are working hard and apologize for any inconveniences. The circulations of these rumors originated by a hosting company that is a competitor to LikeWhoa back in May of 2002.

Thanks for everyone's continuous support.

When Verio started having problems how come there wasn't a second / backup provider to pick up the slack?

In case you didn't understand how to do a tracert, it's Qwest.

While I don't know the story at LW at the moment, I can tell you right now that just having another pipe doesnt always guarantee things will go smoothly.

There are situations and circumstances that can cause problems well beyond the having redundancy point, and they aren't caused by money too much of the time.

On the most important note however, Mr. Speak Easy aka Reporter-Wannabe, Verio will act as a PRIMARY provider continuously once all issues are resolved. Williams will ALSO act as an additional provider within few days.

Funny how actions got turned into rumors. I guess time will show.

I could be a real big asshole and act like your sales team, but NOBODY deserves to be down for this long. Good luck in getting this repaired for your customers, a few of them are good friends.

Would it be to much to ask, and to put all the curiosity to rest, by telling everyone what really happened, or is happening??

You guys sure spend a lot of time apologizing for fuckin up people's businesses.

How many times did you (likewhoa) apologize to me in the past 60 days?

How many of those worthless apologies manifested themselves as corrected problems... and how many ended up with you stealing my $$$ without ever providing the products and services you promised?

Seriously.. fuck me once.. shame on you.. fuck me twice shame on me....

If anybody here is looking for a *real* host.. one that is truly reliable... one that calls you weeks before the possibility of downtime even exists.... hit me up & i'll share the knowledge.

My ?

If you ever give a dime to like whoa.. you're certain to get only one thing... some really good apologies.

You are not a Like Whoa client, why would I? To add to that, nobody called the office today at all with these accusations, clients or not... So your intend is obviously to further instigate the rumor mill we already took care of back in May (read Oprano board).

What happened is for customers to know, after all they pay us to make sure that they are up and running. It's LikeWhoa's job to make sure they are provided with quality service, uptime, and complete satisfaction. Any problem we have IS our problem, not our customer's. They deal with us, not Verio.

OK I can agree with that about it being yours and your customes business. But since your company spams like 24/7, then it's you who makes your company a public image, thus oweing atleast some explanation ???

I'm a customer, you may want to add some kind of downtime notification system either by e-mail or website, to keep us updated. Not just for this one, but for all downtimes and maintenance.

Hello everybody,

I've never had sites down this long. When they're are down this long (and longer) is it usual or fair to request some type of compensation (break on the hosting bill etc.)?

Just want to know how things are done in this type of situation. I'm losing money...just want to know if I should expect to eat my losses.

Professional opinions on this matter only..please.

Just wanted to ask also if a Likewhoa rep can tell me why some sites are unaffected by the downtime such as privategold.com etc? I'm just inquiring...LW hosting has been amazing with the exception of this incident. While privategold is unaffected, likewhoa.com is.

What happened is for customers to know, after all they pay us to make sure that they are up and running. It's LikeWhoa's job to make sure they are provided with quality service, uptime, and complete satisfaction. Any problem we have IS our problem, not our customer's. They deal with us, not Verio.
Yo man fucking chill. All he fucking asked was why. It was a fair enough question, and once you tell your customers why, its a pretty safe assumption it will make it here anyway. Go get a beer or 10, come back happy.

I know if Cogent or GX went down on me, and if it was there fault I'd be livid at them, not people asking me what happened. In fact that was the case a month ago with a fiber cut in Cali. I just told to route part of it through their above net peering, and let the remainder ride on my GX giges.

Bobo.. you should make your own decision based on simple questions.

1) can you afford downtime? if so how much?
2) do you have an open line of communications with your current host?
3) if things are going well, do you have reason to believe that they will continue so? or do you believe they will get worse? if things are going poorly, do you think they will get better?

decide how you honestly answer those questions and you'll know what you need to do...

now if it is me.. (oh wait.. it was me 2 weeks ago... thankfully with some inexpensive servers that werent in a production environment..)... i'd leave (and have left serveral) any host who doesnt treat our relationship like a partnership.

Your host should be like a priest.. you should be able to trust them fully.

Right on man. My host is my money and I'm his; so I expect him to earn it so I can earn mine. It's that simple.

It's real simple. There are two types of hosts.

1. Super low cost, single routed hosts that are often oversold. Great for free traffic and freehosts. Just do traces from all over, if they all trace through the same tier one, and if they have hops over 50ms, that's that you've got. Perfect for galleries, TGPs, freehosts, etc.

2. Higher cost, higher quality. Multi-routes, fast throughput. 2-3x the cost. Trace from all over and you see 3+ routes, not more than 40ms on any. That's the good shit. Perfect for paysites tours, webmaster sites, etc.

Know what you've got, and you'll rest easier.

Lensman,

Were you at Galaxy Net when they went tits up?

I think that was the worst.. I learned a big lesson then..

Now I have servers everywhere.. my own dns.. etc..

Nobody will care about your shit as much as you do! So if you can afford it get redundant.

Likewhoa was slow today for most.. slow beats down..

When Galaxy Net went.. shit we were down for days.. locked in cages by Above net.. Now that SUCKED!

Chris

We have about 40 servers in house, the rest are in 4 other datacenters, soon to be 3 others.

Galaxy net hosted thewetlands, netp*nd, and a few large people in the biz.. basically they failed to pay their hosting bill to Above.net and Above net took all the boxes and locked them in cages.. You had to have a letter from God basically to get your servers released.. or you just had to lie to the CEO..haha

That was a nightmare..

It was about 3+ years ago.. I remember netp*nd guy flying to California to get their box out..

Live and learn!

Now THAT was a fucked up situation. The CEO of AboveNet woundn't let people get to their content off those locked up servers. I flew to San Jose and walked into the office and spoke with the CEO. After a yelling match, we went over to the cages and he release my content on the boxes. He knew i wasn't leaving until I got all my content off the harddrives on those locked up servers.

Galaxy net...what a joke. I don't even hold them responsible for that....as I should have seen that shit coming a mile away. I only blame myself.

We have had servers at Like Whoa for many many months now. Until this week, service has been uninterrupted. I am very familiar with network outages and latency issues, and I can tell you that their service has been historically amazing. We have facility all over the place, and historically, Like Whoa has been the most reliable and fastest in our mix.

Unfortunately, this week has presented problems. Am I upset? Yes. Did I lose money? Yes. Are they going to take care of me? Yes.

Things happen. This is their first outage in the new facility, the rollover plans seem not to have been perfected yet. But I have faith that this won't happen again as severely as yesterday/today.

I currently have no plans to move.

That's the theory anyway.
