I'm not sure how to fit in your category, but here's some unlisted movies I liked:

oldboy(south korea)

other but might be different category: crash, magnolia, snatch, blade runner, cidade de deus, run lola run, Abre Los Ojos/Vanilla Sky, The Audition(Japan)...

Fuzebox also suggested OldBoy.

I haven't heard of 2 or 3 of the latter movies. Do you mean the original Crash with James Spader or the one from a year or 3 ago about racism?

Some great names mentioned and I have seen most of them, from what I have seen recently:

"El espinazo del diablo" - nice one, spanish production, I guess Del Toro is behind it

"Bringing out the dead" (Scorsese / Schrader / New York revisited - this time with Nicolas Cage )

"Once they were warriors" - great New Zealand production, no fiction there

"Gangster no.1" - a British one, strongly recommended to the Malcolm McDowell fans - his best role in years although most of the movie it's only his voice

"36 Quai des Orfèvres" with Depardieu - I was pretty surprised to see a real good criminal drama in 2004

war genre:

Das Boot - I recommend the 4 hours long director's cut, it's worth it, incredible performance of Jürgen Prochnow and one of my top three war movies of all time http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082096/

Stalingrad - (Germany, 1993) doesn't need much commentary, very underrated but completely awesome movie and another of my war top three http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108211/

1408 newer movie, not sure if it's on dvd yet. Will be soon if not already.
Also Harsh Times was a decent flic that kind of flew under the radar.

Can't think of anything else off the top of my head that hasn't been mentioned.

Very nice effects and horror work and not that bad story, although the main female character is just about as realistic as in the video game.

Loved the game, hated the movie. It's based on a real place. Centralia Pennsylvania.

the effects are really nice - but they saved paper on the script, they are mostly screaming since half an hour.

Not attached to this in any way. You might want to bookmark this site: http://www.movie6.net/ .

He usually has new movies posted the same day they hit the theaters. Good place to "catch up."

I'll have to check most of those out. The only one I've seen is Das Boot.

On another unrelated note: Swimming With Sharks (Kevin Spacey, Benicio Del Turo, and a few others) Very twisted and great movie with some great quotes.

Yeah, Deborah Kara Unger is something in Crash, Dead Zone ain't bad too.

Blue Velvet has the most ridiculous happy end scene in the movie history, but Dennis Hopper was a real class, the scene with Orbison's song in the background is very hard to forget.

Might want to check out too, I really do reccomend "Stalingrad", kicks seriously ass to any conventional WW II movie I ever saw, no happy end, no romantics, no pathos, no heroism, just the shit it was.

Benicio only had a short cameo in the movie. I mentioned it earlier in the thread, but if you like BDT, check out Way of the Gun.

A quote from Swimming with Sharks

Kevin Spacey(Buddy): Look, I can appreciate this. I was young too, I felt just like you. Hated authority, hated all my bosses, thought they were full of shit. Look, it's like they say, if you're not a rebel by the age of 20, you got no heart, but if you haven't turned establishment by 30, you've got no brains. Because there are no story-book romances, no fairy-tale endings. So before you run out and change the world, ask yourself, "What do you really want?"

paraphrased and expanded from Winston Churchhill: Any man who is under 30, and is not a liberal, has not heart; and any man who is over 30, and is not a conservative, has no brains.

You could also hear the line from the movie sampled into a song by Lagwagon who also samples in a line from Jacob's Ladder in another song and a line from Welcome to the Dollhouse in another.

Guy gets internship with Buddy. Buddy is a nightmare to work for. Buddy abuses the hell out of Guy. Guy falls in love. Buddy is going to bang Guy's girlfriend(an old fucktoy of Buddy's). Guy kidnaps Buddy and tortures him. I won't ruin the rest.

Truly mindfucking movies...

Most Cronenberg, Lynch, Fassbinder, some Bergman, some Hitchcock, movies from Philip K Dick´s writings, some Terry Gilliam's films... mmm...

Some Pasolini's films: Canterbury Tales, Arabian Nights, The Decameron, Salo... extremely twisted and some of 'em very rare to find

John Waters in a way sometimes too...

I'm going to 2nd (or 3rd or 4th or whatever it is by now) the movie The Machinist. I had never even heard of it until my read about what CB put himself through for it and wanted to see it. We watched it and wow, what a weird yet good movie.

That role gave me a lot more respect for him, which was already high.

James Spader:

Stargate
2 Days in the Valley
Crash
Secretary
Sex, Lies, and Video Tape
Boston Legal

I can even forgive him for Supernova. One of the worst movies ever.

The bondage scenes in Videodrome are freaky - very inspirational.

I also dig Cronenberg's Dead Zone. Great ending twist.
